Default Another starter dilemma.

I think my starter finally gave today. The car just wouldnt start. Before it takes me 3 to 5 tries to start the engine and sometimes just once and it would go but today, click..click...click x20

Checked the battery (12.5V reading), cleaned the terminals still nothing. The only thing i havent checked is the starter relay and the ignition switch. I know where the starter relay is but dont know how to test it if it is okay. i have a meter, if anyone know how to check the relay it will be much appreciated. Second, how do you check the ignition switch?

If the above doesnt solve it, then i have to dissect the top of the motor and b_tch slap that starter. Any body knows the size of the two bolts that attach the starter to the motor? thanx in advance.

Well tested the starter relay this morning and it is OK. Found a website on how relay works and methods on testing them. Here is the link http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/hweb2.pdf

Default Starter problems

My 1999 LS has 104K miles and started having problems starting. On the third day, after almost 20 tries the car finally started. I simply drove it to the dealer. They ran diagnostics on the car and confirmed it was the starter. RLexus dealer replacedeplacement for a new one cost me $534 including labor, parts and tax.

Hope this helps any of you having similar problem.

ps: any one know at what mileage (roughly) the starter begins to fail ?

My starter was just starting to go on my 1991 LS400 at 185K. I finally had it replaced when my front engine seals were starting to leak at 190k.
