Default Starter Question

Hello All... I've been searching the threads and haven't been able to find anything similar to this.. so if this is a well duplicated subject.. I apologize.

Usually on first startup in the AM, my starter is remaining engaged for an extra second, today it stayed engaged for an extra 4 or 5 seconds. What could cause this?

My brother tested the relay and it seems to be functioning properly. Is there a feature to these cars that auto-engages the starter that could be malfunctioning? I'd like to exhaust all possibilities before going after the starter itself.

Thanks again for whatever help you can offer.

My guess is either the spring or the bearing inside the starter assembly is sticking...you said this only happens in the AM?

My car was doing the same thing before I had to replace the starter (as well as sucking a whole lot of amps to get it cranked)...then it went south.

thats the contacts in the starter solenoid sticking. basically, your starter is gonna take a dump soon. get it changed now before one day you come out to your car and all you hear is a click... and fyi, the starter is right under the intake manifold. so there is no way youre gonna be able to knock on it with a pry bar to get one last crank out of it...
