Default Bad Pulley

I had a pulley on my LS that ceased up on me. I heard it going and had it checked. Was scheduled to take it in this week to get fixed. Well, it didn't wait and it ceased and I lost the belt somewhere on the highway. Made it home after that (maybe 3 miles) with no other issues. Being that it was running without the water pump going, should I be worried about and damage.

If you were wise enough to know that a pulley was going bad , you were obviously smarter than to operate the engine at extreme heat , correct?

So you broke a Serpentine Belt? If this was a serpentine belt then your only worry here is heat , this is very different than a broken timing belt on a interference engine ( 95 & newer LS models). That would be bad news!!!

Thanks for the input. I was careful about the extreme heat. I didn't run it hard at all on the way home. Safe to say, there shouldn't be any issues. Scheduled fix is tomorrow.

In other words , what happened to you could not result in valve train damage. The only possibility of a problem would be from heat.

FYI........ the water pump is not turned by the serpentine belt but rather buy the timing belt

I was wondering about that. Looked at the excellent pics on Earls website & could not tell for certain exactly how that works. The Serp belt only turns the fan that is attached to the water pump then?

No, the fan attaches to the fan bracket and not the water pump.

No permanent harm done to the car at all when the serpentine belt breaks.
