Default CPO, what is it worth

I was wondering if you are looking at two identicle vehicles, mileage, options, color, etc are exactly the same, but one is a CPO and the other is not. How much more would you pay for the CPO vehicle

When I purchased my CPO LS430 last month, during negotiations, the dealer told me that they have to pay $750.00 to Lexus to have it CPO. This is above and beyond whatever they spend on bringing it up to the standards. How accurate this information is, I don't know. It came from a guy selling me a used car.

Yeah, I think you can call up any dealer and inquire about a car which they advertise and ask how much will it cost to make it cpo.

When purchasing our ls about 10 months ago, we just added the lexus bumper to bumper 7yr/100k warranty (car milage has to be less than 50k, I think) to the car. I dont know how that compares to the cpo.

FWIW

My sales guy told me essentially the same for the CPO. The used car buyer whom I spoke to relayed to me that the cars they acquire for sale go through a similar check but the CPO certification has that added cost which is added to the sticker price. I think they mark it up like any retail product, 100% or X2.

I like warranties but in my purchase, I opted for the one without CPO since it saved me some $$$. I also was able to get a detailed service history and this helped calm the major worries in buying pre-owned.

I was quoted $850 less w/o CPO warranty when I bargaining for my GS430 last summer at Sewell Lexus in Dallas. I opted to go with the warranty.

$850 for 3 year 100K sounds like a deal, esp peace of mind.

Can I get a car CPO'ed at any Lexus dealer.

I am going to buy the non CPO vehicle because the one that is CPO'ed will cost me an extra $3100 and I just think thats a bit high (mileage on both cars are within 3k difference and color is the only difference)

Its not something you can add on later, it has to be sold as a CPO by the dealer.

GRAND_LS4 is right, but if your car meets certain year and mileage guidelines, you can get an extended warranty that I think is nearly, or just as good, as the CPO warranty. I forget what the guidelines are, but they're all over these forums. Search for "extended warranty" and you'll see what I mean. Good luck.

Thanks guys,

I will look into getting an aftermarket warranty instead. As for the cars I am going with the non CPO car because it's $3100 cheaper and my wife and I like the color better (silver)

I bought my 1992 as CPO in 1997. This was back in the days before ClubLexus, so I didn't know how reliable or what weak points my car had. It turned out to be expensive and unnecessary insurance, since our cars are so reliable and the only parts that tend to fail are not covered by the CPO power-train-only warranty anyway.

The one thing that failed in the first year I owned the car, the leaking power-steering pump, was not even covered! If I had to do it again I'd research on CL the weak points of the year and model car I was interested in and skip the markup of the CPO.

Why not go with the lexus extended warranty? I know some aftermarket warranties dont even cover work outlined in tsb's.

I don't think I will be going the aftermarket warranty route. I am still looking at the non-CPO and will talk to someone at a Lexus dealer about getting it certified
