Smile Time for new shocks?

Hi Guys

My 91 LS has almost 300,000km's on it and is going strong.

I am second owner and note from the service history that the shocks (non-air susp) have never been replaced.

I am probably answering my own question, but should i replace them and with what?

Regards

hello your choice, OEM you retain the original ride, KYB and TOKICO are also available, but a little stiff, so you decide and the availability and cost comes into play

Hello,

I would use the springs, shocks and rear strut from the 93-94 model.

How much would KYB or TOKICO shocks cost? Any good websites that sell them for the LS first gen?

psls400, is the ride quality bouncy at all? You should try pressing down on your trunk then releasing it immediately and see how long it takes for the car to regain stability....if it bounces more than 2-3 times, then that's a good sign that your rear shocks are out. You could try the same method for the front shocks as well. With the amount of mileage on your car right now, I would think that the rears might have gone out or are close to going out.

Tokico shocks go for $75 per shock at TM Engineering:

Default shock for 91 LS

My 91 LS has 200K miles on it, the shock absorbers are still shocking decent. If you have to change to new shock and plan to keep the car for times to come, I would buy the original one.

Thumbs down I just replaced shocks on my LS....

.......but I'm not very happy with the result. My car has about 65K miles and I was told by the Lexus dealer that my front shocks are on their last legs. So I went with BILSTEIN shocks at all 4 corners, as I had heard a lot of good things about them.....After the replacement, the Lexus "magic carpet" ride is gone, making the ride a bit harsh when hitting potholes or going over bumps. Handling has improved a bit, but I don't think it was worth the ride tradeoff!!

Which Bilstein's did you go with? If i remember correctly there were normal, and heavy duty ones. At least for other cars there was.

.....Heavy Duty (HD), which, as far as I can recall were the only ones listed for my particular model year. the ride's not too bad most of the time. Only when I hit a pothole or go over a sharp bump.
