Hey everyone, this is my first post and ive been offered a whiite 99 jaguaar xj8 vandenn plas with wite leather and black piping and is truly a beautiful caar or a 94 ls400 (what ive always wanted). The jaaguar is a really really nice caar but i am only 16 and thats too nice of a firsst caar. My brother is telling me im an idiot for not taking it over a 94 Ls400, but i want somthing that i can make really nice (rims......). If u were in my situation, which wuld u pick. ITS HARD DECISION FOR ME!!!!

For reliability reasons, I would take the LS anyday. If its possible, I strongly urge you to try and upgrade to the second gen LS's 95+.

The 95's were upgraded with a lot of the fixes to some bugs found in the first gens like problems with:

LCD screens blacking out.
Breaks (4 pistons vs 2 on the first gens)
Speedo lighting issues
Power steering pump
Headlights

In addition, a few others, not to mention the updated design from both inside and out.

The real questions about the Jag are How much, How many miles, what the service history, and whats the condition.

I assume that you are not paying for it yourself...
In that case, as much as I like Lexus, I would recomend a Jag. A 99 jag with stock wheels will always look better that a 94 Lex. with some aftermarket bling bling...

If I am wrong and you are the one paying for the car, then go with at least a 95-97 LS model years.

man, that's wayyy too much to be your first car. you need to start off a bit cheaper car and have some more driving experience before you take off with a lexus or...a Jaguar.

I think im gunna go w/ a 94 or maybe a 95-97 Ls bc i dunt want a really expensiive caar to be responsible for. If i get an LS i willl put 20 inch Helo Specs on it bc it looks amazing and a k&n intake for a little more air to the engine. I'd get the Jag. 98+ Jags were made by Ford and believe it or not, they're more reliable than the older ones.

anyone got nice pictures of a 95-97 ls, havent really seen any that look better than the 94 i posted above. gottta make a decision and i dont want to get stuck w/ sumthing i will regret getting.

If you can provide some specifics of the two cars then we'll be able to venture an opinion.

Off the top, safetywise, the Jag will have the updated standards for '99. Reliability, I put almost equal because the LS will have more miles on it so wear may be an issue. Value, the Jag will have better resale beause it is newer but the insurance at your age will be a factor which favors the LS.

You could go eitherway. I gather you have support from the folks so if they are willing to back you, I don't see a reason to not choose the Jag. The LS as the others have suggested, I'd go to a 95+.

Now if you said well maintained 95-00 LS or '99 Jag, the LS by a landslide.

For the later models, I'd suggest the '97+. These have side impact air bags along with the transponder key. The '98 had the VVTi, 5 spd tranny and options like nav and HID.

At this level, I feel the Lexus will be the more reliable car and with good care will last well into the 200K miles. The other is that Lexus has a good network for repair. A Jag...that can get specialized depending where home or you wind up.

Mine is a '97.


Either way, you have some good options.

Nice lex RA40, the wheels make it look nice. I spoke to my daad yesterday and he said that if i wanted to i could get a 2000-01 Lincoln LS. The only probllem is he wants it for a certain price(under 14k), color(white), and milage has to be under 50k. The only way i would get one is if it has the v8, ive heard the v6 isnt powerful at all. Anyone know which is faster, the lincolnn has 252 hp and the lex has 250. Thhe xj is out of the picture now, its lincolln or 94/95 lex.
