Default no seat belt tension

My 93 ls400 driver's side seat belt seems to have lost tension until the release button is pressed. Just trying to get an idea of how much I will need to spend to get the seat belt working as it should. Many of the ls400's I test drove had seat belt problems so it must be fairly common.

Thanks, Chad

Default I got mine from the dealer

I lost tension in my drivers side seat belt. Took it apart and the spring had broken. As no parts are available, I ended up getting a new seat belt unit from the dealer for around $130. Carson Toyota may be able to do better on price.

This is a good question. I have the same problem with my front belts. I wonder if there's a way to fix this other than buying a new part.....hmmm, it's on my to do list now .

Exclamation seat belt replacement if no retraction

my 95 ls has a special star looking NUT on the bolt that you need a special tool to take the seat belt out ... it anchors it in the wall behind the molding .. dont take it apart unless you have this tool.. you will waste your time and have to reassemble .. if it retracts slow you have to buy the whole belt and pretensioner to get it back to springiness again

I had both front seatbelts replaced by the dealer. They wanted around $450 for both (I think) but when I told them that this is a safety feature and the dealer should replace the belts for free because if I get in an accident and get hurt, Lexus could be liable. They replaced them both for free.
You can at least try this route.

Yeah I remember reading somewhere on this forum that if you push it Lexus is supposed to fix the seatbelts for free... I'll try but I'm doubtful

the loss of tenssion is a somewhat common problem for the LS and the only way i know to get it fixed is with a new part.

I remember reading somewhere that all car manuf. are required to fix seatbelts for free... is there any truth to this? Pretty sure I read that on CL.

So I went to the dealership and waited for almost 2 hours for them to tell me that is cost $420 to fix the seatbelt because the belts are only covered for 6 years. Unbelievable. At least they washed my car while I was there - gotta pardon me but Ive never been to the Lexus dealership so I was so pumped.

That's bull****! Such a huge piece of safety equipment should be covered FOREVER!

This is pretty pathetic to hear, especially for a Lexus! Come on..this isn't some Ford Festiva piece of crap made of recycled beer cans, this is a LEXUS!

suneet you are correct Im surprised no one else mentioned that....BUT the catch is they required only within "x" amount of years or mileage i thinks its five and 100k...So I guess my 96 with 240...didnt meet the cutoff when I took it to the dealership six months ago...
