Default ouch!tires rubbing against rear fenders

I am running 255/45/18s in the rear and the tries are hitting my rear fenders especially when I hit bumps.I hate to hange the tires and I am wondering if I can install anything in the springs etc... to keep the springs from collapsing?

What year is your LS.
Is it lowered?
I always thought you can go up to 20" wheels without a rubbing problem if you get the right offset.

Please give us the kind of 18 wheel you are using and the offset if known. Is it the 2004LS430 wheel????? This is a concern by many--folks are doing it all the time--+38 to +40 offset I think. But believe the tires have been 245/45/18.

The JcWhitney thing will not work--not enough room within the strutt for it(how are you going to turn the bolt on the inside of the strut!!! These were made for 1958 buick coil springs,etc,etc,---not struts.
There are rubber pieces that go in struts to either raise the car or reduce the damping rate[similiar to what is used in NASCAR.
I used this method (below-homemade) to lower one corner 3/4" and it worked fine--has for the past 8-10 months at least. Think your early Gen. is level all around the car-----go measure !!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 90LS and I have not dropped it.The suspension is still stock as you can see in the pic.I am not sure about the offset.If only I can raise the springs a bit in the rear and also put more tension in it to keep it from collapasing over bumps.This pic is the setup with 255/35/18 and I had no problems at that time until I went 255/45.

You've got 3 options:

1. Go with a 245/40/18 or back to your previous 255/35/18 setup.

2. You could go with a stiffer aftermarket spring (such as Eibach or H&R).

3. You could roll/shave your rear fenders.

Go with option 3 it does not cost much....... you also have a large gap between the wheel & fender. Mine at one time kind of hit too but my wheel gap was not that much. Just be carefull when you drive until you do 1 of the 3.

Default I bought some spring boosters

I bought some spring boosters and Advance Auto claims it will raise the car a bit and also put some tension in the springs.They are rubber which are inserted in between each coil in the springs.The pic above is with the 255/35 series tires but I have on 255/45/18 and I will post pics when I insert the boosters.With 255/45 tires the gap in the rear is not as big as you see in the pic.

These are the pics I took today with the 255/45/18 tires and a pic of two boosters installed.(1/1/2inch booster)I am also about to install one more booster on top of the springs and see how that works.The next thing to do is to shave if this does not work.

Default booster in bottom part of springs

I will be installing the rest of the boosters in the top part of the springs and let you know.

Default It works much better now!

It works much better now and I am not sure how my wheel well will be shaved if my tires were touching the tip of the fenders.Then again I may be wrong.
