K&N engine air filter for sale
Thought I'd post here as well:
I have a used K&N engine air filter, E2606 for sale at:

As a curosity, if you have a K&N installed, how long has it been in your car?

I'd had a K&N drop in filter in another car for about 90K. Unfortunately, I didn't tear that engine down to see how the internals were nor did I get an oil sample. My suspicions are that my main problem was oil flow and to some contributing point the grit allowed over the years. All theory though, that is one part why I removed it from my LS.

No problems that are obvious. The oil analysis indicted universal averages of 11 PPM but mine tested 16 PPM when it came to silicon. This component is present in sand catsed parts, gaskets, anti-freeze inhibitors and dirt passing through the air filter. Since there was no obvious signs of anti-freeze in the oil, this leaves the gaskets, parts and air filter.
This test I used the K&N for the period. My next sample will be from the stock filter. If the silicon PPM result is lower, I will have a strong suspicion that the K&N does allow finer dirt particles to pass. My car has 82K so it will take additional tests to bare some speculations that I have.
