Major rattle on front end of my LS - HELP !
Hi guys,
I been looking on these boards for awhile, but this is my first post. I have a 95 LS and a few months ago, I started noticing a rattling noise coming from the front right part of the car. It usually only happens when I make a left turn, and only when I start to accelerate. After I pick up speed it stops. Well, it has gotten progressively worse and I have no idea what it could be. It almost sounds like there is friction when I turn, like the tire is hitting the wheel well or something. But I know it's not that because I had my freind check it out while I was driving and didnt hear or see anything. Do you guys have any idea what this might be ?
Thanks

man o man, bushings are the number one problems for the LS, almost every LS have these darn bushing problems, my guess would be that your car could have a bushing that is worn. you should have a suspension shop check it out to make sure its not too severe

I saw on another board that its possible that the bushings just need to be lubricated. Is that something that can be done easily ? One guy claimed to have a similar problem as me and sprayed some kind of lubricant on the bushings and the noise went away. Have you guys heard of this before ?

If the sound is the squeeky sound, then you can spray the lubricant and you'll be good to go. However, if you have a "clank", then you should replace the suspension bushing (or even the engine or the trany mounts or the schock mounts, many possibilities with the "clank"). That means that they are cracked. If you have a scraping sound, maybe it is the schocks or the springs (both ususaly on the rear suspension) or oversize tires. Something drags. Sometimes even a bad alignemnt will scrape.
The best thing to do is to get a Lex specialist check out your car. It will cost you about $80-90 to check it which applies to the repair, but you will have a clear head. You can also take it to the local shop and they will fix it for you much cheaper, but make sure it is a good mechanic. Let me know what you do.

"Rattling" sounds to me like something other than a suspension component. Have you had the car serviced recently?
One trip I had with another car, I had this vibrating sound on accelleration and when I poked around, I found a flat head screwdriver wedged in the lower engine cover and just under a frame member. Once I had it out, no more noise. On various cars I've found: pencils, coins, nuts and screws, rocks, other tools...it is amazing some of the stuff you can find that can contribute to strange noises.
The tools I did find were not worth keeping. Was hoping for a Snap-On ratchet. <G>
