i've done the search on the topic but i couldn't find any solid solution.
i have a '93, 1st gen LS, and i don't get the thunking noise so i don't think it's that "throttle shock" issue. my car doesn't stall either. all i notice is a slight shake. the idle stays put, it doesn't fluctuate. does anyone know if a low idle like that can damage the engine in anyway? could a throttle body cleaning help this out?

What's the idle speed of your car ? Mine (91, 150K) is low too, about 600 RPM. I don't think it can do any damage.

600 RPM is what idle should be.
You may wnt to consider a tuneup and/or throttle cleaning.

My '92 LS-400 idles at 600-650 rpm after initial warm-up. Within specifications.

The manual said that idle speed should be 650+-50 for 91 LS400.
So, it's OK if it's within the range 600-700 RPM.
