Where Can I Get A Repair Manual From
Where can i get a repair manual from and how much will it cost me? I heard that the cds dont tell you how to replace parts just shows diagrams.

I got mine from Toyota Material Distribution Center, (800) 622-2033.
For a 96 SC400 in early 2002 the prices with tax and shipping were:
Repair manual (2 vol set) = $174
Wiring diagrams = $68

Ebay
I asked the same question a couple of months ago. I got mine on ebay for about 1/2 the cost of a new manual from Lexus. It has saved me some money already because it has a lot of diagrams and detailed pictures so that I can make an informed decision whether I want to tackle the job or defer to a professional mechanic.
I decided to replace the control arm bushings with Daizen bushings myself. It is not something I would have attempted without the manual.
My next job will be to replace the starter. Parts and gasket is the cheap part of the job. Labor is what really costs you.

Call Steve Ganz or Gordon Miguel of Carson Toyota (California).
800-908-6968 x2384 mention that you're ClubLexus member when asking for price. Tell Gordon that you want the shop manual (2 Volume) and the electrical manual. They use to not charging shipping, now they do so find out how much for shipping to get the total cost to compare with your other source.
Please list the price here after you shop so we know how much is cost.
My brother friend, a Honda dealer mechanic in Virginia (DC), ordered the manual for me 2.5 years ago and it cost me ~$120 without the electrical manual...

I bought the repair manual (2 volumes and all wiring schematics) for 91 LS400 at local Lexus for CAD 250 (USD 190). The stuff on eBay is different and not very good.

eBay is not necessarily a bad source--just make certain that you are getting the actual hard copy factory manuals rather than anything on CD. I purchased Volume 1 & 2 on ebay for $165 including shipping (shipping was nearly $20 as these two volumes together weigh over 12 lbs!).

I bought the shop manual of ebay and it was a cheap photocopy of the original. I just shipped them back to the seller and got a refund. I paid $115 originally, but my opinion is that I'd rather have the real thing for $150 than some cheap photocopy from some kid for $115. Beware - it was advertised as a "factory original shop manual", but it was clearly a copy.

I just got an alldat membership and it had every procedure you could imagine in alarming detail. My mechanic (not the Lexus dealer) said that it had everything he needed to do almost everything on the vehicle. for $25 bucks it might be a better deal. I will say that it over does it in some places (i.e. to replace the timing belt it says that you need to unbolt the A//C compressor and remove the radiator - which you don't really need to do). I still think it was well worth it since it also has information on technical service bulletins

The best $10 I've ever spent on my LS
I've found an awesome Lexus resource.... http://techinfo.lexus.com/ I paid $10 for a repair manual, collision repair manual, all service bulletins, wiring diagrams, technical training, and more. Oh, and you can access ANY Lexus or Toyota model !!! This is the best ten bucks I've spent on my car so far . There is some much LS info on my computer now I don't even know where to begin!
I subscribed for a one day membership. Then I downloaded everything I could. The only disadvantage to getting a repair manual this way is that you have to download MANY files. These are official Lexus repair manuals in PDF form. It's not like you have to download all 1200 pages or so, but it is a lot of file saving. Although I wasn't keeping track of time, I think it took me about 1-1.5 hours to download and save all the repair manual files. One more thing...if you use this service make sure you have Adobe reader 6.0.1 installed, 6.0.0 does not work!

The Autoshop at my school had the Alldata system. It was all on computer, consisting of a couple of DVDs for use on the computer. I was able to use if for free because I was in the class but the Autoshop had to pay yearly subscriptions. I forgot how much it costed per year but at the end of the year, the DVDs do not work anymore so old ones cannot be used because it requires a modem connection with Alldata. Other than that, it was very useful. It had TSB's, diagrams, and whatever else you needed, for any vehicle as well. I also heard that there was a DVD version were you would play it off a DVD player. That one should not expire due to the fact that there is no way to connect a DVD player to the internet. I dont know how much that one is either...
