Default Decal/ Logo painting/ removal??

Hi,
was wondering if anybody has painted the front Lexus logo and rear LS400/ Lexus decals? My black '92 has gold, which i never liked and it's now tarnished. I was thinking of going the monochrome look and trying to paint them a dark gray.. Is it possible to have someone redo them to the original chrome? What about removal? I've read some of us have done it to varying degrees of success, but after fiddling with mine, the glue seems very hard and will surely leave a residue and mark. Any help / suggestions? thanks.

Have you considered going the black pearl badges option?

JC,

One of the SC members recently painted his badging. Click here for that writeup.

I replaced the badges on my GS with black pearl instead of chrome for the slightly evil and stealthy look.

Cool

Remove them on a hot day & heat them even more with a hair driyer it will soften the glue, then get a peace of fishing wire & ease it behind the badge & pull it through, it doesn't scratch the paint. If there is any glue left paint thinners quickly applied & wiped off should do the trick.

well, i did the deed and painted the badges. on my 92, with 3 minutes of hair dryer and fishing line, all 3 came off the back with no problem. the "L" and "Lexus" have many alingment holes, while the "LS" and "400" do not. there is a very hard glue residue that is all but impossible to get off the trunk. i never got all mine off, but ended up scratching the clear coat trying. anyway, primed, painted them. then used 3M trim adhesive to put back on. will say that this is difficult. the glue eats the paint on the emblem, it is like model glue, it comes out from under the badges, you have to wipe it off before it dries. lastly the alignment holes were concerning me... if water gets in there, it will never get out and will rust the trunk from inside. i used a bit of clear caulk on the pins of the badges to help seal that area. hope it works. in all, as difficult as i thought it would be. painted them a black metal flake on a black car. hope this helps someone. the front is easy.. one screw and the badge comes off.
