where is this comming from it is on the right side of the trunk (when standing in the back) by the sunroof drain? has anyone had this problem? what to do?

There are three most common ways to get water in the trunk:
1. Through sun roof drain hoses. Usually tere are two: one hose on each side. They drain water from sunroof and go into your wells. Inside the well, they are connected to plastic tubes that go to the outside. If one of the hoses got disconnected from the plastic tube, it drains water into your well.
2. If your car is parked on the incline and the rear is higher than the front, then water accumulates in the corners of runoff ducts that surround your rtunk under the windshield. Weatherstripping that fits around the trunk is not made to be waterproof, so some water sips into the trunk. That's the problem I have.
3. Through taillight. This problem is not common to Lexus, because it is made well. Other cars get that a lot.

hmm there is moistue in my right taillight? does that mean that is the problem?
i looked at the sunroof drain and it looks ok and secure?

One other area is the trunk lid seal itself. Make sure there are no splits or cracks. When the lid is closed, it will spread this apart allowing water to get past.

Ok, your not going to like my response much, but here goes... I had a '91 LS400 and I took it to the dealer 2 times and a private shop once and was never able to eleviate the problem. The dealers solution... which was effective for me, was to take the plug out from under the spare tire. At least that way I didn't get standing water.

I replaced the seal in the trunk lid checked the tail lights. I was informed that the sunroof does not drain through the trunk on those models. So, long story short, I now have a '95 LS 400 and there are no leaks.

I am pretty diligent and I had no success in getting to the bottom of this leak, and it was alot of water. Living in Seattle, you do not want a car that leaks!

Good luck. I'd love to hear about it if you have a fix, becuase it still bugs me what it was...

Leaks in taillights are a b!@#ch to track down. However, if you have moisture in one of them, you at least have a place to start. Open your trunk, put a garden hose into the gutter that runs around the trunk and see if the water seeps through to the inside where taillight is attached ( remove the lining, of course).

My other thought is a rear window seal, drainage will go into the trunk too. Place some newspaper or paper across the trunk area and wash the car. Whever the paper becomes wet, will be an indicator. If it isn't coming from an obvious area, it will be a "challenge". :|

I'm having the same problem and I realized it's the weather strip around the trunk. There's always one wet spot and it's always right under it.

ok i fixed the right side problem, replaced the weatherstripping around the trunk, so those leaks are fixed but now i have water in the DRIVERS side pouch in the rear! the one with the wires in it so thats not good any sugguestions for that leak?

Almost every time I took my 1990 LS to the dealer for maintenance during the first four years of ownership, a "reseal trunk" item would appear on each invoice even though the trunk was not leaking and I did not complain of a problem. There was never a charge so it must have been done because of TSB. My trunk didn't leak all that much until about the seven year mark but it was leaking quite a bit by the time I sold it at the 13.5 year mark.

A business associate in the U.K. had the same (but much worse) problem on his early LS so the problem was it apparently not limited to U.S. spec models.

I never knew what the problem was but it would be interesting to see the TSB about it.

This requires a Three Stooges approach...blasting or drilling holes...I'd do the latter.

Check your power antenna seal and that the drain tube is not plugged, kinked....
