Default can i run 12v 65w bulbs in DRL?

hey guys,

just got some putco 9005 12v 65w bulbs that i was going to put into my 2006 GS430 for daylight running lights.

just worried that the 65w will burn too hot and melt my housings....anyone run these bulbs?

any feedback greatly appreciated.

cheers.

I don't have a GS but aren't the daytime running lights the high beams running on lower power? The stock high beams are 65W so these shouldn't be a problem.

ya the DRL are indeed just the high beams running at 1/2 power.
is there anyway besides pulling the actual bulbs out that i can verify that the stock bulbs are 65w?

are you sure they were talking about the DRL/high beams and not the fogs?

thanks for the help.

i know a few people advised me not to run 65w for fogs and lo beams.

not sure about drl / high beams

the way i think about it is 35 dollar hid kit messing up +600 dollar headlights? melting wires, housing? nty.

35w is bright enough for me anyways no need to get it EXTREMELY BRIGHT , to the point where other people can't see around you

i spoke with 2 different lexus parts guys at 2 diff dealerships to make doubly sure and they both confirmed that the DRL/high beam bulbs are indeed 65w bulbs.

keep in mind these are halogen bulbs not HIDs.

cheers.

sorry i think i misunderstood you. i was running ballast and HID bulbs in the past.

65 watt should be fine for DRL. as a matter of fact, which bulbs are you buying for the DRL and is it compatible with everything else? I know some guys are running DRL led's but they do not work with the high beam (Do you have a 3gen)?

ya i considered going with LEDs but in the end i decided i wanted to retain my high beam functionality so i went with putco nitro blue bulbs.

they're ok but i might end up replacing them with osram nightbreaker plus bulbs as the putco really don't offer much illumination when it comes to using the high beams.

and ya i have a 3GS.
