I used Maguires plastic polish 3 times, them polished out the plastic with a buffer and Maguires carnuba wax. It removed all the yellow, and they look 10x better than before. I have heard that it is a good idea to do this at least every 6 months to keep the yellowing and roughness from reappearing.

Is it necessary to take off your headlights to polish them, or can you leave them on?
How long does this polishing actually last, or does it depend on the way you clean it?
Does wet-sanding mean wetting the sand-paper and sanding it?
Man i'm so lost

Everyone is going to have their own ideas on how to do this. There is no clear cut way to do it. I can only share my own experiences in hopes to enlighten other possibilities. Who knows, my lenses may "somehow" turn ugly again. I highly doubt it, but, you never know. I wish everyone luck with trying this, and I will be glad to answer any questions through PM's.

The Maguires Scratch X (black tube) mentioned earlier does work extremely well, especially if you REALLY scrub it.
BUT!!! Don't let it stay on the paint! I know that is what the stuff was originally intended for but I accidentally left some on the bumper right below the headlight and the clear coat was damaged... as in ate off.
Probably because it was a month or so before I noticed it and it is very hot down here in Texas.
But man it sure makes the headlights shine!

tried Mcguire's scratch X (purchased from Target) today and wow!
it is much better than 3M rubbing compounds. It was about $7.00 plus tax. those who need to clean their lights, use Mcguire's. it works much better and it even smells better than 3M.

Dammit, I just got my headlight chipped last night on I-80 coming home from Sacramento! Big ole' gash in the plastic, nothing that Scartch-X could help fix . I'd take yellow headlight over crystal clear headlight with a gash anyday!

Hehe, I spent all day whitewater rafting with a group of UC Davis friends up in the American River. Rafted about 15 miles, so I was pretty drained by the end of the day. No mini-meet for my tired ass. See you on the 14th though .

Oh man,
I read all you guys' words on cleaning the headlights, so of course I had to try it on my yellow's as well. Came out looking awesome!!! I used the Scratch X (ONLY cause it smelled better ) and Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound........theyre as crystal as the day they came out of the factory.
Thanks for the idea
Buck
