Finally installed the chrome 'Angel Eye' Headlamps
I finally got the chrome angel eye headlamps for my ride. I had the McCulloch 5000K HID kit with the stock reflectors and was never ecstatic about them. I had to aim them real low to avoid blinding on coming traffic. This defeated the purpose of the increased light output in the 1st place. I thought about going the retrofit route but I don't have the time, nor the patience to complete it. I also felt that a lot of the retrofits looked too 'hollow' like there was too much empty space around the projectors. I liked the shroud and look of the Angel Eye headlamps, but I disconnected the Angel Eyes. I'd like the car to look as close to OEM as possible. Unfortunately you lose your wedge lights.
Out of the box
One side in. Loosening the bumper is a ***** the 1st time. I've done it couple of times now and it takes about 10 minutes a side.
The reduction in glare and focusing of light becomes pretty obvious.
Both sides in
Initially light output was pathetic. I had all these rainbow like curves flying all over the place. The bulb that came with the kit was significantly shorter then my 9006 Mculloch HID kit bulb. I had to create a spacer with aluminum piping to move the bulb back about 5/8 of an inch to get the maximum output.
Here's the final result.
Cut off is clean, but both shields (in the projector) have a sharp slant down on the right side, about two-thirds of the way over. This causes those bizzarre tangents going up to the right. When driving, it's off on the side of the road (which is nice for signs), but I may replace the shields later to create a completely flat cut off line.
The gap in the middle isn't visible from the drivers seat. I have to look way over the steering wheel to see it. Light output is 100x better then my previous set-up. I can see soooo much better. The light isn't as even as real HID projectors. There are dark and light spots.
Pictures are pretty spot on. There's more of bluish tint in real life and you get that cool spectrum of colors as you move past the lights. There's also a nice soft reflection off the indicator that creates a wedge bulb like effect that looks way cool and doesn't really show in the pics. You can see a hint of it in the last picture (driver's side). Overall worth the $300.

It seems like any bulb can fit. There's only an open whole (about 1/2" wide). The bulbs are secured with 2 screws and a metal wire that clamps down onto the bulb. So the 9006 bulbs fit, but I had to make a spacer to get the best focus. I secured the bulbs with 2 screws and wide washers to keep them in place. The spacer is an a 1" in diameter aluminum tube 5/8 inch long.

Nice job with the writeup. And THANKS for the pics. You are the first to post up.
Would you mind getting more pics of the beam pattern.....from further away...onto a flat wall?
Also, how does your spacer look like? Is this a DIYer job to get it to focus? Take a pic of spacer and the how you secured the bulb to the housing.
So you put your McCulloch HID 9006 kit in there? Is it 4300K or 6000K?
Thanks again.

yep,
i remember how a lot of people bashed these headlights when they first came out.
but i dont think they look bad at all. i would hook up the halo rings though.
i might consider these since i am looking for a set of hid headlights anyways.
but i'd like to see more of the output.
can you please take various night time pics of the output?
thanks
