Default CHEAP DIY SC300/400 HID Projector Mod

Hey guys.. I was sitting at my computer bored and decided to see if something I thought was true. I have a projector from a replaced headlight assembly out of my SC300. I created a cutoff shield and put it inbetween the two pieces of the stock projector.. Check out these results!!! OMG!!!

Here is a breakdown of what I did. I figured that the factory shield was spaced too far away from the bulb and too close to the actual lense. By making a shield that is closer to the bulb it causes the cutoff to get sharper. I thought this was the case and just proved it to myself.

This project would be labor intensive only because you have to open the housing, but cost almost nothing because you would not have to purchase and retrofit an aftermarket projector.

My Custom Shield mounted, and factory Tab removed

Looking in

Front view with shield installed

Cut off in wall

Compare on my garage (right side is the one I'm working on)

Looking good. What did you use to measure and create your cuttoff plate? You know what I just got an idea. Put your plastic headlamp lense in front of it and post a pic of your cuttoff pattern as well.

There was a guy on the HID faq site that did this same thing to his Supra in Japan. Came out nice. He even figured out how to get more color at the cuttoff beam line too.

I simply traced the projector and then marked each side where I need to start and finish my cut. Then I drew a line across and a second line right below. You can see the lines in the picture. I didn't cut on my second line because I figured it would have magnafied too much. I simply cut a much smaller second line. I hope that all makes sense..

Sounds good. I remember doing something like that with my old ES. Post cuttoff pics with your headlamp lense

So far so good. Are you going to do the sanding for the lines as well or leave it as is

Well I'm not sure if I even want to do this mod to my headlights because they are brand new. I would sorta feel dumb if I screwed up my new housings.
