Default fog HID conversion woes

I am attempting to install a 6K HID kit for the H3 fogs on the GX. The H11 kit (low beams) was a breeze to install (even for an amateur like me). Connecting the relay to the OEM spade connector as well as running the wires from the bulb to the ballast is not looking so "plug and play". It appears to me that some modification is necessary (eg, drilling holes in the back of the fog light housing aparatus ) in order to run these wires. Anybody have any advice to offer?

Kash,
This is a photo of the back of the fog housing after removed from the gx. The relay from the HID kit from what i understand need to connect to the spade connection inside the circular door which twists off. How can you make this connection without drilling through. Also wires from HID bulb need to get out this way as well to connect to ballast. To complicate matters further, I'm not completely sure if the HID bulb fits in place completely (just barely touches some metal barrier).

Default Interesting!!

The foglight must need some modifications in order to change it.

That's why I just changed to performance light bulbs only.

There is a white OEM connector to the outside aspect of the circular door (red arrow) on the back of the fog housing (spade connections from halogen bulb + ground on inside aspect of this door). Steve from xenon depot thought that you could possibly connect the HID kit harness to this white OEM connector therefore bypassing the need to create access to the inside of the fog housing. Even if this connection is feasible, you still would have to create an exit pathway for the wires running from the H3 HID bulb to the ballast. So it seems that some modification is necessary.

Just today, I had to replace the two burned-out 100 watt H3 blue bulbs that I had installed. Replaced them with the original 55 watt clear bulbs. The 100 watt blue bulbs only lasted about two weeks. They have been out for a while, but thought a fuse had blown due to the extra wattage. Your post prompted me to check the fuse and to replace the bulbs.

I took a good look at the housing in question. Looks to me that if the HID H3 bulb fits securely in the slot where the original H3 bulb goes, then it would only be a matter of cutting a slot in the cover, about 3 o’clock on the cover, looking from the back side. Making sure you remove the rubber ring seal first. Also, assuming that that the HID bulb has a cable attached to it.

Then you would simply slide the cable with the bulb attached, into the slotted cover, put the ring seal on, insert the H3 bulb into it’s seat, lock it, then slide the cover into place, and close it. You might need some putty to completely seal the cable going into the cover.

Modification would definitely be necessary to the back of the dust cover. I do see what Steve is getting at though... It would make sense to connect the harness directly to the white connector. What does the other end of that white connector look like? Would you be able to utilize spade connectors perhaps?

Default cap and TRD431

Here is a close up of the OEM white connector to the back of the fog. It has two input sites (see next reply for xd HID kit connection)

Here is a pix of the kit. The connection to the OEM connection on the car is circled. Also sent pix to Steve for his input.

If you are using the kit, which sends power to both lights, then you will only be using one of those white connectors. The wires from the white connector will activate a relay which will then send power to both lights.

The two wires that you have circled are to be attached to a constant power source, if you are using the kit, I think that you are using.

Correct!

You just need to connect the wires from the kit harness to this connector (or possibly tap)
