Default Replace headlight bulbs

Is there any thread that shows how to replace headlight bulbs ? It should be straightforward on other cars, but not LS400 as far as I can see. The manual doesn't have this simple maintenance procedure.

You have to remove the battery as well as the air intake. It is very easy using the tools that came with the car. You can also search on the lighting forum and I Think there are detailed instructions with pics. It looks harder than it is and should only take about 10-20 min.

Good Luck,

Craig

Thanks, puffmaster. That's what it looked like to me but I wasn't sure.

TVD51, I see from your profile that you have a 91 LS which is probably like the 90 LS that I had for over 13 years. I gave away the service manuals when I sold the 90 LS, but I think the preferred way is to remove the entire headlight light assembly. After removing the corner marker light - by removing the one top screw and sliding the corner marker light forward to remove it - you will then have access to a nut (were there one or two?) that holds the assembly in place on the outer side. Then remove the top and bottom bolts on the "grill side" of the assemblies. Funny - I did it so many times (I experimented with lots of bulb brands and wattages) that it was second nature and I could remove a light assembly in probably less than three minutes. Be careful not to touch the aiming hardware by mistake - you should be able to reinstall the light assembly after changing the bulbs without having to re-aim the lights. I just checked under the hood of my 2000 LS and it looks like the light assemblies would be removed using the about the same procedure as the 90 LS.

I suppose you could also get to the bulbs by removing the battery and air intake but that sure sounds like a lot of work.

Best of luck...

Jim

Thanks, Kansas. Your approach is unorthodox, but it sounds simpler than removing the battery & air intake. What type of bulbs you recommend for 91 LS400?
