Folks,

Can I connect the lexus (ctek) charger to the 12v socket in the glove box and keep the battery charged that way rather than directly to the battery in the back?

it depends if the 12v socket is powered even if the ignition is off. if it is, you can charge it that way.

You should use the Lexus trickle charger directly to the battery in the back. That what is said in the owners manual. I would not risk trying to charge your battery from the glove box...

Charging from the 12v cig should not be an issue unless the CTEK's output is over 10A. Most 12v plugs won't power on unless the ignition is on anyways. Any reason why you wouldn't want to connect it directly to the battery?

I tried connecting directly to the battery but could never get the charger to switch from orange to green. No matter how long I left it, or played with the connections it wouldn't switch over to green. I even tried a second ctek charger I have and the same issue. I was wondering if the car had a current draw on it and so that's why the manual recommended disconnecting the negative terminal clamp and connecting direct to the battery post. I didn't want to do this as I would be resetting everything every time I did this.. Hence the question if I could try the 12v charger and see if this worked for me...

Have you checked with the LFA technician at the dealership?

If neither of the chargers works, wouldn't that indicate the likelihood that the battery is the problem?

curious if you just look at the charger on and off or for quite a while? i have ctek on my nsx too, and it goes from maintenance (green) to charge (orange) every now and then. so it doesn't stay green all the time. just wondering if it so happens that you run into the "orange" case all the time
