I think Toyota should have a plan to rebuild any salvageable damaged LFA just like how Mclaren did with Mr. Bean's car ......

I am sure whoever was financially responsible for that car did the math from every angles, it must be cheaper to turn it into a junker drifter then to rebuild it into a pristine example.

The lowest price LFA in the USA on Autotrader right now is listed for $282k. My guess is it worth less in Japan.

Mr. Bean's F1 cost ~$1 million to rebuild and was worth ~$8 millions at the time, now is listed for sale for $12 millions.

I think the car was probably already a total write off by the insurance company if the engine and interior electronics are shot. But the chassis/body panels, etc., are salvageable, what I meant is Lexus should take it back to restore it , even if the owner did not want it ......

The car is too new, not rare enough or have enough historical significance for Toyota to do that yet, maybe in 30 years.

This would apply to the 2000GT now.

Most likely, I think this is one of the 14 prototypes that were supposed to be destroyed. Lexus probably decided it to turn it into this ridiculous thing. The engine and transmission might have been taken out by Lexus to study the wear of high mileage etc. Two of the prototypes were turned into Spyders.

The one in China with heavy damages (looked like even frame damage) was repaired in Cologne Germany at Toyota's F1 facility. Then it was sold again after all the repairs. In the video, they said they have all of the equipment and expertise to fully repair the monococque. The repair costs were taken into account when LFA was designed. That was the primary reason why the quarter panels were made of aluminum rather than carbon fiber.

No way is that a "totalled" LFA since the worth of the car is too much for it to be totalled.
