These cars seem to be sitting in dealerships losing value. My guess is that Roy is trying to unload now before having to face a larger hit in resale from what already seems to be dismal.

Not sure I would be guessing that....

I knew directly from him that #003 was to be sold once he settled into #499...

I haven't had time to catch up with him recently, but I was surprised (slightly) that he has decided to depart with #499 too

If you happen to find out, do post what his side of the story is? I am very curious to hear what his thoughts are. He used to hang out a lot on lexusenthusiast and answer people's questions. I also talked with him a bit. He oozed unreal passion for the LFA so it is quite a bit surprise. He originally ordered a second Nurburgring Editon LFA for track duty, but when his wife gave him the ultimatum of "only one LFA allowed", he changed it to the standard edition for the #499 to be both the track car and daily driver. He jokingly said his wife "cooks very good food so cannot afford to lose her".

He even invited me to come over to Atlanta and he would take me for a ride in his LFA.

I can guarantee it has nothing to do with its resale as he drove it for 3 years very hard mostly on the race track and considering 2000 GTs in mint condition now sell for upwards of $1.5 million, it is a no brainer how much LFA will be worth in 15 - 20 years considering LFA is a far more extreme effort and just as rare.

Anyway, here is a tribute video of Roy's ex-LFA #003 that was made about 2 years ago

I don't think it really makes a difference how "passionate" one feels about a car, especially when money is tied up in it. Roy already took a $100k hit in addition to the costs tracking it plus the consignment, if there is one.

The market is weak for this car at its current prices. The LFA is going to go down and settle at a floor price before it starts to go back up in value, and that won't be until decades from now. I'd imagine that floor hovering around the mid $200k range in the next 5-10 years. This is in no way suggesting the LFA is a terrible car, but that cars that hold their value at this level usually have some heritage and pedigree behind the badge. Lexus is a newcomer to this game. This is just an opinion from some observations I've had.

499 has 875 miles on the ODO... It sold for 400K and 003 sold for 300K. The man has owned 25 exotics so my guess is he has his eye on another exotic or exotics. Which one will it be???

I haven't talked to him recently but he seems like the guy that would hate to have an LFA just sitting there unused. Maybe he felt that it would be better for them to be sold to people to enjoy them?

He was pretty much the face for LFA owners and did us all a great service. Thank you Roy!

Wow! The #499 sold for a very good price. He does not keep his exotics for more than 2 years so he kept the #003 for over 3 years and initially intended to keep the #499 for the rest of his life.

Roy is a great guy and represented Lexus LF-A owners well! I'm glad he took me for ride in #499 before he sold it, funny thing is he loves the LFA so it must be something coming that we don't know about. I know he was not happy about #003 sitting they at the dealer not a me to sell it, every time I went in for service I would go see it. I will reach out to him just to hear his thoughts on what made him sale both if he tell me and won't mind if I share.
