Default AMS Germany Magazine: Lexus LFA vs Audi R8 V10 GT 560 BHP

AMS pit the LFA against the R8 V10 GT with the Gallardo LP560 560 PS engine on super-slick Pirelli Corsa tires.

Disclaimer: Lap times are off because they are reflective of the "professional driver" Markus Winkelhock's driving capabilities. Certainly, not anywhere near the limits of the cars..

Lexus LFA:

Power: 560 bhp
0 - 62 mph (100 km/h): 4.1 seconds
400 meters: 11.9 seconds
Lap time: 7:49
Slalom speed 18 meters: 70 km/h
Obstacle avoidance: 154.1 km/h

Audi R8 V10 GT:

Power: 560 bhp
0 - 62 mph (100 km/h): 3.9 seconds
400 meters: 11.8 seconds [Pirelli P-Zero Corsa super-slick tires]
Lap time: 7:50.9
Slalom speed 18 meters: 67.6 km/h
Obstacle avoidance: 153.5 km/h

1st place: R8 V10 GT
Easy to drive, lots of AWD traction, comfortable, safe both on and off the track

2nd place: Lexus LFA
Stunning engines, top agility and handling, not daily driver friendly and struggles on public roads.

It would have been cool if they tested the Nurburgring spec LFA...seems more competitive with the R8 GT.

Why is there a need for the 'ring edition?? If you did not notice, the LFA was actually quicker than the R8 GT in track lap time and was equally quick in a straight line while the R8 GT had the advantage wearing much stickier Corsa slick tires compared to the modest LFA setup.

LFA scored better in track capabilities, but they preferred the R8 V10 on subjective merit such as, daily driving, comfort and being more safe on and off the track and felt.

I find it amusing that a Lexus 'lost' to an Audi because it was not "comfortable and safe enough".

I find it funny they're comparing cars around the Nurburgring, then give it the German (surprise!) car for being better, off track? lol. Biased article is easy to spot. LFA, even though slowest tested so far around the 'Ring, still beat out Audi's best. With mediocre (in comparison) track tires.

Yeah, the numbers could only be used for comparative purposes much like Evo's LFA vs 599 GTO. Both LFA and R8 V10 GT at their limits are capable of a lot quicker times. The LFA was quicker nonetheless.

Audi claims the R8 V10 GT laps Nurburgring in "under 7:26".

I Agree with all of you guys LFA better Lap time around the Ring, but came last because its "not daily driver friendly and struggles on public roads" So why use the Ring to determine which car is better on public road and everyday driving? Why didn't their take them on the German AutoBahn, and after that drive them on public road then get verdict based on the Actual drive on the Specific roads.

A LFA doesn't do a 0-60 in 4.1 sec. More like 3.7-3.8.

Again, it is 0 - 100 km/h (62 mph) and the numbers are only for comparative purposes. The only thing it tells that the cars are similar in a straight line (with the R8 being on sticky Corsa DOT competition tires). Europeans do not use 1 foot roll outs either. The numbers are off either way like I mentioned in the original post. It is also not clear if Lexus Europe allowed them to use launch control mode on the LFA or not. They never mentioned it in the article. They only state they used launch control for the R8 V10 GT. The best time for LFA 0 - 60 mph are 3.6 seconds so far.

LOL, I doubt that many LFAs are DD. Aren't those Audi's race tires only suitable for the dry?

Yeah, that is questionable.

Regardless, I think it is a huge accomplishment since despite being on relatively modest tires compared to the Corsa DOT competition slick tires on the R8 and equal power, the LFA matched the R8 V10 GT in a straight line past 100 km/h (keep in mind, the R8 V10 GT is officially as quick in a straight line as a LP560-4) and put down a quicker lap around the race track.

I just can only imagine what an amazing monster LFA would/could have been with some serious high-grip tires.

I had always thought R8 V10 GT was stripped down, hardcore comparable to the 'ring edition, but seems like they think even a standard LFA is too hardcore for daily driving.

BTW, Corsa tires work decently well in the wet as well, which is what separates them from the Michelin Cup tires since they only work only in the dry. However, both tires are track DOT competition tires.
