Default Battle of the supercars: Lexus LFA vs Audi R8 V10 results [UPDATED: Full video]

Full episode video:

Teaser videos:

Behind the scenes showing how LFA's brakes are far superior to the R8 V10 since they went downhill very fast after the very first run:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5Mf-...layer_embedded

Some stats for results:

Standing mile:

LFA: 30.58 secs@167 mph (admitted to screwing up the launch big time. Neutral dropped only, but reeled it back easily).
R8: 30.64@ 166.1 mph

Win: :LFA

Top speed:

LFA: 184.1 mph (Too much handling downforce due to spoiler not retracting)
R8 V10: 185 mph

Win: R8

0 - 100 - 0 mph

LFA: 1168 ft@ 14.4 secs (LFA smoked off the line 3 - 4 car lengths lead with perfect launch. Tanner claims he was using launch control system.)
R8 V10: 1167 ft @ 13.8 secs

Win: R8 V10

Road Course (1 mile)

LFA: 44.8 secs
R8 V10: 45.9 secs

(Tanner screwed up the launch in LFA big time, but still won by about 9 - 10 car lengths behind the LFA going at about 112 - 114 mph. LFA simply destroyed R8 V10 mercilessly)

Overall winner: Presenter gave the win to LFA/Tanner over the huge win in the Road course.

I just saw this last night, you can tell Tanner knows he screwed up, he keeps saying LFA is the one to end all supercars and how it was tested on fuji but he was getting his butt kicked due to his mistakes. LFA is far more superior than R8 in almost every aspect, Tanner just didn't do so well on this episode.

This is a better representation of LFA's 1/4 mile.

Tanner did manage to launch perfectly in the 0 - 100 - 0 mph test and it pulled away easily by 3- 4 car lengths before 100 mph.

In the standing mile, LFA pulled like a freight train reeling R8 in and passing before the 1 mile mark despite a huge screw up on launch.

I love how Tanner kept calling LFA "superior to just about any supercar today around the road course".

Regarding the 1/4 mile with GTR, that still does not accurately describe how quick LFA should be since that is still without launch control and a very flawed neutral dropping method, which Tanner also used in the 0 - 100 - 0 mph. LFA should be a lot more faster to the 1/4 mile than the GTR atleast by 3/10 - 4/10s.

LFA also is wearing Bridgestone street tires while GTR was wearing Dunlop extreme performance tires that do not work in the wet.

I know the show just like "Top Gear" is entertainment first, but really?? I would reserve my comment about the "Ham fisted".

He is an excellent rally driver and drifter. He beat the R8 V10 by 10 car lengths to the finish line and by almost a second despite missing the launch by 2 - 3 car lengths. He was pulling the R8 in the corners and on the straights everywhere.

He made no mistakes here since in the 0 - 100 - 0 mph he hit the brakes right at the 100.0 mark perfectly.

He only messed up the launch since the neutral drop technique is flawed just as every other publication pointed out. LFA's launch control system is absolutely awesome and used here in these tests in this video. If they had used launch control for every test, this is how LFA would have left.

LFA is everytime leaving the R8 V10 in the dust from the launch using the launch control system:

here is a screen capture of LFA from the R8V10's cabin at 66 mph. Both cars used launch control system in this run. Clearly, LFA is already 2.5 car lengths away by 62 mph (100 km/h) using launch control from a mid-11 second car.

Since Audi always does 0 - 60 mph in 3.4 - 3.5 seconds with r-tronic launch control, suffice it to say LFA with launch control is easily 3.2 - 3.3 seconds

Though, the European tests are always with two people in the car and they also do not use 1-foot roll out (0.3 seconds quicker times with 1-foot roll out), I do agree they get consistently the same numbers (or better) than the American tests on 458 Italia or 911 Turbo S, but somehow these cars perform significantly worse in straight line in European tests than they do in American tests.

p.s. The Nurburgring lap times were with 2 people on board so on the 20.6 KM version of the track and 1 driver only, LFA will be around 7:29 - 7:30 according to their tests.

^Yeah I'm curious too about where you heard that the Europeans always do tests with two people in the car, 05.

You can clearly see SportAuto doing their Nurburgring lap with only the driver on board at 1:38.

AutoBild Germany uses a passenger while running the lap (the author of the article). It is confirmed by someone who could read German. It is in the article.

I have no confirmation on SportAuto yet. It could be plausible that SportAuto also runs laps with a passenger on.

Plausible? I already showed you the video!

But I suppose you're right about AutoBild's practice if it's noted right in the article. Still weird that they'd include a passenger for a time attack though. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

yup, very weird. i can't read german, did they say they have passenger when getting lap time? i can imagine having a passenger (author) to get a feeling of the drive and the car on the ring / lap, so he can somewhat translate the experience into words. but when doing a run to get the best time, sounds weird to have a passenger in the car as well
