HOLY TOM CRUISE... this thing is serious. Here's what it sounds like up close at WOT, through a crappy camera phone of course.

'Savage' is right.

WOW, just WOW . For those that don't have Facebook, TWO LF A production cars in camo are seen pulling away from a gas station. One of them is the matte black one seen in spy pics, the other is the white one. The white one pulls away at WOT, and it sounds completely wild, more savage than any of the spy videos so far.
This makes the F430 Scuderia and 458 sound tame and pedestrian in comparison!
I've heard an F430 Scuderia at WOT up close, and the LF A in this video sounds much more savage.

Theoretically, if all the carbon fiber and aluminum said to be in its construction keeps it light enough, and if its transaxle has enough speeds and is geared for very low RPM in its higher gears, it just might avoid it.
The way I see it, there are three cars that are exemplary in how they combine high performance while barely avoiding the guzzler tax: Lexus LS 460, Lexus IS F and Corvette ZO6. The latter's 7-liter V8 engine delivers 505 horsepower in a 3,175-pound package and is rated at 15 mpg city / 24 mpg highway. If the LFA matches or beats those numbers it should be able to avoid the dreaded tax.
Now, if the future increases in CAFE standards lower the threshold at which the guzzler tax kicks in, then all bets are off....

Thx for the analysis, jruhl4...yes indeed, those models are pretty impressive on fuel economy considering the power. There were also rumors that the LF-A might use cylinder deactivation to improve F/E.

Ah, I found a link:

We'll soon find out...

Whatever they call it, the Lexus supercar is expected to feature a myriad of controls right on the steering wheel, from traction control and gearbox settings to toggles for the dashboard displays. Cylinder deactivation is also said to be part of the package, along with launch control and adaptive aerodynamic elements.

Based on the rumors of the car having cylinder deactivation, direct injection, and other tech combined with the car's low weight, I would say it's a good possibility the LF-A will avoid the gas guzzler tax.

Here are some new video clips of the LF-A;
This first video has a collection of different cars being tested at the 'Ring. The LF-A parts of the clip are as follows:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMqW05GNQHw
- at 0:08, where there are TWO black LF A near-production cars chasing each other
- at 1:58, where you see one of the LF A cars going really fast, and doing a wicked powerslide coming out of a corner
- and at 2:47
Here is an absolutely savage video of one of the race LF-As being demonstrated at an event in Japan:
