The Director of "Chappie" Enjoys Making Movies, but He Loved Cars First



Neill Blomkamp, the South African director of such movies as "District 9" and "Elysium," recently told Motor Trend, "My mom says that some of the first words that I knew were car names." In the years since his childhood, Blomkamp's learned the name "Lexus LFA" - from his experience owning one.

Never knew he used to own that white Lexus LFA in Vancouver, BC.

Pretty awesome. I remember seeing a Gtr in Elysium. Should have known he was a car guy. But then again, the styling of that car goes well with his SciFi movies. Would be nice to see an LFA in a future move though!

Nice that he owned a LFA, but he did not keep it long and sold it.

He seems to be a big fan of the GTR, I remember seeing a modified one in Elysium and he said he owned several.

Well, maybe if you read his interview, you would know the answer.

He is South African, but lives in Vancouver, BC. He said he could drive the Lexus LFA only 2 months out of the entire year when the roads are completely dry so he was not able to make the most out of it, which is why he sold it. Conversely, he said he can drive the GTR all year long without worrying about weather climate etc., which is why he has it.
