Default Is this 04 GX470 a good buy?

I have my eye on an '04 GX470 with 73,500 miles. When I went to see it, the VSC light and the alignment light (the one with the axles on it) were lit up on the dash. When I tried to turn, the vehicle came to a complete stop. The acceleration was okay, but when I compared it to an '03 GX470, the '03 was more brisk. The salesperson said that it was related to the VSC light, and that the brakes were a little low also because of the VSC as well. The '04 also had multiple paint chips around various parts of the car, but no major dents or rust like the '03. The leather in the driver armrest was also cracking. However, the ride was smooth, there were no odd noises, no leaking fluids, etc...

Having said all of the above, would it be a good buy for $19,100 walkout price if the dealer agrees to warranty for 12 months the reasons behind the VSC and alignment light?

Thanks!

Thanks for your input. I haven't decided whether to do cash or finance. What would be a good price for that vehicle?

Low mileage GXs are hard to come by as it is a great road trip vehicle. The electric problems you mentioned are of concern. I would say have them fix it before you buy it if its not a Lexus dealership. I have a 04' with 79k miles, owned since new. Never had any issues. Just like its big brother LX these trucks are made to last. Regarding price, I wouldn't say it's way out of line. These trucks hold its value. I've seen loaded 05's selling for $23k+ with 130k miles. If you like it and can afford it buy it, take care of it and drive it forever.

The vehicle is from a Lexus dealership. Should that make me feel better about the vehicle?

When I went to see the vehicle, it had not been through their inspection process. The salesperson said that they would run it through inspection and also fix the reason behind the warning lights. He said that Lexus would warranty the work for twelve months. I'm still a little hesitant, though. Your thoughts?

I would not bother with that.... Lexus dealerships overprice the hell out of their own used cars. If you are buying with cash, just wait it out and find an independent seller. They are more willing to negotiate and would probably know more about the vehicles history.

Edit: $19000 for a 10 year old vehicle with issues? Do you really need us to tell you that is not a good deal?

Okay. Point taken. It's just that the lower miles is enticing. Thanks for the input. I'll try negotiating it down, but will probably end up walking away from it.

Being that its a Lexus, mileage is usually not much of a concern. Here are some examples even though prices in your state will be different.

Thanks for the feedback. It's been helpful. I'm still looking for a GX. Now that I'm armed with some more information, I'll be better prepared to find one that is in good condition and at a good price - I hope. Thanks!

How much would you pay for an '05 GX470 with sports package with 89K miles?

I guess prices vary where you are, I could only find a low mileage 05 GX near me in NJ for under $16K...

I also found an 06 with 115K miles for under $15K:

For around $20K I expect to be able to purchase 2007 and up models.
