Default 1992 SC300 5 Spd 92K $4,000

I bought this car in FL with the intentions of doing an engine swap, I got transferred back to CT for my job so now with no garage I want to sell the car before fall/winter. The car has zero rust and spent most of its life garaged. These are extremely hard to find with a manual transmission, low mileage, and unmodified. The only thing not stock are the wheels from an SC430. Recently the car started leaking oil so I stopped daily driving it. Runs and drives fine just leaks some oil.

If it's leaking from the oil pan (?) you probably need a new drain plug/bolt.

My moneys on valve cover gasket.

Interior shots? That's where your 4k asking price will be either made or broken...

I dunno, for that mileage and being a 5-spd, the asking price shouldn't be a problem even if the interior is ratty. In other words, Pick Me! Pick Me!!

That is a pretty good price! Knowing the mileage and 5 speed and all!

Meh, reasonable price but the front driver fender needs replaced, headlights need to be re-sealed and polished, both bumpers have plenty of scuffs and wear on them, on top of everything he already mentioned. It's nowhere near perfect, at least its a factory 5sp and low miles.. GLWS man!

Hmm... This is awkward to comment on now that the thread has been moved to the Classifieds forum, but in light of the non-functioning speedo/tach, I have to revise my earlier comment. That just tells prospective buyers that there's something serious enough wrong with the car that you don't want to take the time to fix it, which is never a good thing. And it's way too big of a thing to forget to mention up front, which again makes a buyer wonder what else they'll uncover.

Hmmmm.......Thanks for the amazing advice on my ad. If I didn't get transferred back to CT I wouldn't be selling the car. From the asking price I would think it is implied that the car is not perfect. If I was to fix all the little things I would be asking $2k-$3k more for it. Soit's all relative, buy the car and fix it for less or buy one for more that is perfect. If you can find a manual SC300 in unmolested perfect condition for $4k please show me because I am almost positive that does not exist. Serious buyers will ask for more info and I am more than happy to provide it, I threw a quick ad up, forgive me for not listing the MAJOR problem in the gauge cluster. The car is 22 years old so I don't think the gauges would be a deal breaker. Like I said if someone shows interest I am more than willing to provide any info they ask for.

Phil,
There are two important words (part of your diagnosis) you included in your Craigslist add that you cleverly left out of this add. This is a pretty tight community. I won't blow you up, but I suggest you add them back. Anyone who has seen both adds will find that to be TERRIBLY shady. Also you didn't mention the gauges at all on Craigslist.
I guarantee I won't be the only one here who has seen both adds. A simple oil leak takes minutes to clean up and drive to see where it's coming from. Please don't sell this car to a Club Lexus member who thinks it's just a simple, easily fixed leak. Do what you want on Craigslist, but we look out for each other here..

The oil leak is from the bottom of the engine, my guess is head gasket? IDK for sure, the car does not overheat or leak coolant so I'm not %100 that's where it leaks from, like I said the price implies the car is not perfect. Oh also the am FM radio doesn't work, I use a tape hook up to my phone. When I purchasing a car I just assume if someone is interested they will call or ask questions if they are interested, I didn't think throwing an ad up would be criticized so much.

Phil,
Full disclosure in the first post would have eliminated all criticism. No 20 year old car is perfect so people expect issues but a possible head gasket and no speedo/tach is something that should be clear in your first post. A head gasket job (f needed) warrants a swap for some people, valve covers can be done yourself. To make them sound remotely similar is just shady. That's where the critique comes from. A shop can diagnose this in minutes. Why not get a solid diagnosis before possibly selling someone a car that has major, unspecified issues. I'm sorry you are in this predicament but it's just not right to try to pass the issue onto someone else that may not know what they are in for. At least not in a close, supportive community. We would have looked out for you the same way if you considered buying a car with these issues. You posted on craigslist and mentioned that you thought it was the head gasket and it didn't sell. You then posted it here without mentioning the head gasket. What would you think?

All that said, if you decide to fix it CL will be here to help you get it done properly. When it is road worthy, we will be here to help you mod it...... or sell it.

Good Luck
SG
