How much was that repair for the power steering ?

Is that a fairly common problem for older lexus cars ?

... scottys209 is selling a sc400 with the same problem..

I wouldn't say it's a common problem, 200k miles even 150k miles is plenty of miles for a PS pump or rack, depending on driving style
Figure $300- $1200 or so for the rack, $200-$500 for the pump, and then 6.5 hrs of labor

It's a big repair so lots of people avoid doing it. Doing the labor yourself and using aftermarket parts will keep you on the low end of those $

Thanks for the info carnal c30 ... interesting to note that it seems normal at 200k to replace...

I have 1 Honda 1 Acura= 490k miles combined- Original PS Rack/Pump on both.....original automatic tranny's on both as well....

I have a 2000 BMW 740iL, I know what its like to have a money pit ...

Im still getting an SC400 tho...

It all varies I guess, my 240sx has 280k miles on the PS rack and is still good but in general I start seeing issues above 150k miles on most cars

Unless its a domestic then I've seen bad PS pumps st 60k miles
