Default Lexus/BMW Collaboration Rendered

There've been words on on the wind about Lexus and BMW's partnership for ages now. I know, my interest has been aroused every time I hear about it because... Well, because it would be awesome. There's no way a BMW derived sports car platform and Toyota's engineering will yield a car that's just "meh."

Strange then, that my reaction to this rendering is resoundly... "meh." What do you think?

Apparently, and I put a big emphasis on the apparently, the FT-1 is done by BMW and Toyota.

Looks like it sits high on the sides even though there almost no wheel gap. Side skirts could fix that. Other than that, it looks good. It would be nice to see it in another color to see how the body lines pop or fizzle.

BMW Performance, Lexus refinement, creativity, and reliability will only make my bank account bleed and make me drift away from BMW even further !

Not a fan of their engine reliability. All Toyota want is BMW chassis at the cheap, and all BMW is spreading the cost.

I've had 7 BMWs with 200,000 actual driving miles. Never a single breakdown. I'm a big fan of BMW quality. The details and execution are sometimes superior to Lexus. Not always but sometimes. You just get the feeling more thought and better materials went into some parts. They feel more solid, more "german." Sometimes you get the feeling some Lexuses are Toyotas in fancy dress when you really pay attention to small details and stuff like door trim, weather stripping, how doors/trunks open/close. Don't get me wrong, Love my '16 Ct200H F sport and IS200t F sport and other Toyotas in the past, both brands have their pros and cons. For example the trunk on my early 2000s 3-Series? Shuts like a *****ing precision bank vault masterpiece while my 2016 IS200t trunk feels cheap and hollow and imprecise. It rattles as it shuts (with no plate) and the little license plate light trims are loose to the touch. brand new car. Other than that I love it though =D

I think a lot of smack talk against BMW takes place in the Japanese car community--most of which is regurgitated from people who have never owned any BMWs.

The 7 series line (particularly the newer ones) tend to have a lot of electric gremlins though, i'll give them that. But powertrain wise most BMWs last very very VERY long.

You also have to remember all that cool stuff you have on your Lexus today--guess who took a chance and pioneered and introduced that technology into their cars first? Yep. BMW and sometimes Mercedes. They are the innovators introducing new tech and pay the price for it in brand reputation when the new tech goes wrong. Respect your elders!
