Toyota working on plug-in hybrids
April 25, 2006
Toyota City, Japan - A report from the Green Car Congress says that Toyota is working on plug-in hybrids, and that the next-generation Prius will have an all-electric range of about 14.5 km.
The report says that Shinichi Abe, who heads Toyota's hybrid development program, said that future Toyota hybrids will be able to operate as mobile generators. The next Prius, due in late 2007 as a 2008 model, is reportedly being designed with a fuel consumption target of 2.5 L/100 km.
Last year, Toyota exhibited a concept home in Japan that included a plug-in Prius; the house could interact with other Toyota technologies, and was designed to be able to use the Prius as its sole energy source for up to 36 hours in emergencies, and recharge the car when needed. At the time, Toyota said it expected such technologies to be in use by 2010.

I dont know about a plug in car...Seems a bit toyish to me. Also, is the gas/oil we use in cars more scarace and more polluting opposed to those used by enegery companies? I wonder what it would cost to charge your car up on a daily basis as energy (PG&E) is NOT cheap. In my house we spend about $400 a month, if all 4 of us we're charging our cars on top of that, I think the bill would be REALLY high.

plus I actually read about a few people with EVs that have solar panels on their home to charge their vehicles 100%....no additional $$$....plus I'm sure you could plug it in at work for free
