Default New Lexus Body Styles Coming...

Okay all you hardcore Lexus fans and devotees. Our Vice President and General Sales Manager just returned from Washington DC, where the Lexus dealer meeting was held and I got the new information, just like I promised I would. Here it is:

First up is the new 2006 GS300 and 2006 GS430, coming March of 2005. They saw the new ones in person and say the new body style is HOT.

Next is the RX400H Hybrid coming in April 2005. There will be a guarranteed 2000 per month national production, but they are trying to up that right now. Lexus factory is keeping track of orders, something they've never done before. It's a good thing, so they can see the high demand and what regions are selling better than others.

Then next year is the new IS250 and IS350. A 2.5 cylinder sedan with a more reasonable price point and a brand new sedan with more than 300 horsepower. The following year will bring the AWD version. And, of course, my personal favorite, the IS convertible. The LF-C is coming 2 years from now and will be a targa and a speedster.

HPX wagon is still coming, but I'm not sure when. It will be in addition to our already great LUV lineup as a "superwagon/SUV". The GX470, doing better than anticipated is going to remain with our Lexus lineup.

The new LS lineup will feature a supercharged engine and a longer wheelbase....and quite possibly a 2 door version. This vehicle will be able to go over 200 miles per hour.

Hybrid technology is the way to go and Lexus recognizes that so they are going to work on a GS300 type body that gets ES type fuel economy. They are also going to develop one for the new LS.

That's all I got from our meeting, my hand was writing so fast because I was trying not to miss anything the Vice President was saying. It's going to be an exciting time for Lexus in the very near future.

Game on, people, game on.

Well, so much for all the posters in the CL forums here that said that Lexus could not (and would not) market an engine smaller than the 3.0L. Surprise.

And what is this crap with the GS'es ? Lexus PROMISED an AWD GS for 2005...at least for the V6. Now it's time to deliver.

I've nicknamed the new LS lineup..the SuperLS. Yes, this is what I've been hearing, but probably this is the direction Lexus engineers are going with. I'm sure this is still a few years away. But can you inagine the possibilities......

From what I've heard Lexus is going to offer the 3.5L V6 with 285HP....not 300+. I'm also doubting any sort of LS based coupe that can do 200+MPH. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

Lately I've gone through a lot of press releases, comments by Denny Clements, considered the model cycles that Lexus typically uses, and some of the other news about upcoming cars that I already know about, and I think this is roughly what we'll see over the next 3-4 years:

2005
- March: 2006 GS is launched
- May: 2006 RX400h hybrid is launched
- September: 2006 IS is launched with sedan, SportCross, coupe, AWD, manual and automatic models available*

2006
- February/March: HPX based vehicle is launched- could be "GS430 SportCross" as the name is unclear, but some version of the HPX will hit production.
- April: 2006 SC430 refreshed with 300HP/6Spd sequential Automatic
- May: Convertible, AWD, and "GT" IS models launched
- July: 2007 GS300 AWD and "GT" GS models launched
- August: 2007 $100,000 sedan launched
- September: 2007 LX launched
- November: 2007 LS launched with standard and midlevel V-8 offered initially**

2007
- March: 2007 ES350 launched ***
- May: 2008 $100,000 Sports Car launched
- June: 2008 IS 400h launched
- July: 2008 SC launched****
- August 2008 GX launched
- September: 2008 LWB, AWD and "GT" LS models launched
- December: 2008 Refreshed RX 350/RX 400h*****

2008
- Hybrid ES 400h launched
- July: GS refreshed

* Expect a 245HP 3.0L V6 (derived from the GS300 and using the same 6Spd automatic)or 210 HP 2.5L V6 as standard equipment in all models, a mid level 285HP 3.5L V6 ( midlevel for coupe, sedan and convertible; top of the line for the SportCross), and a 320HP V8 as the upper end engine for the coupe, sedan and convertible. The "GT" version will likely use a 5.0L V8 with 410-420HP.

** Expect the 4.3L V8 but with around 310 HP as the base engine, a 5.0L 425HP V8 as the mid engine, and a hybrid 5.0L V8 or V10 as the top end "GT" model

*** The next ES will use the same 3.5L 270HP V6 that's coming in the new Avalon, and will have optional AWD.

**** Expect the next SC to have the 320HP 4.3L V8 standard with an optional 5.0L 425HP V8, and a hybrid 5.0L V8 or V10 in the "GT" model

*****At the refresh the RX will switch to the same 3.5L V6 used in the ES and Avalon

The horsepower figures are relative, but will probably pan out to be somewhere around what I projected.

This is what I was told from upper management that just got back form a national dealer meeting. Only the top brass get to go. And perhaps I should have clarified..the new "SuperLS" is the one. A 2 door version is just talk at this point, since we already have the SC430.

If you have another reliable source, then please share! We'd love to hear it.

Did you personally see the new GS's in person, or just the managers saw it? And what changes are there compared to the one that we have seen? Thats if you know.

Michael,

Yes, I've read the press releases. We get copies in memo form. It's one thing to read a press release, but quite another to have a conversation with someone who sat in and touched a new body style 2006 GS. Not to try and discount what you are saying, but you say yourself that you "projected" some of this. You are very knowledgable and well informed, but I received my information directly, not guessed and put together from various articles and press releases. The dealer meeting JUST happened last week.

No, unfortunately I have not yet seen the new GS in person. I sure wish I had, though. All I can say is, judging from their enthusiasm, the pictures do not do it justice. Most likely it will be at the next major auto shows, January 2005 is the one here in Los Angeles. I can't wait!

LongoLexus, did they also happen to give a preview to what the next IS looks like? Any details you can glean are welcome!

I hope that the IS250 will not be a 4 banger

Is the supercharged LS an option or does it comes standard ?

No, nothing official yet on the new IS lineup. You guys on the east coast have all the luck because the
LF-C debuted at the New York Auto show. They've never showed that car over here. I'm personally waiting for the convertible. *drool*
