Trying to install a new antenna mast. I press AM & CD when turning the car on, and AnT appears on my radio. But instead of pushing the antenna OUT, the gears pull the antenna in. I turn the radio off, and the antenna pushes OUT.

In other words, my antenna is doing the opposite of what it needs to do in relation to the radio. Does any one know how to reset, or reverse, the orientation (in/out) of the antenna?

btw, what was wrong with your old mast? did it go up and not go down?? if it did that, you probably still have a broken piece of the old mast stuck in your motor assembly, and it will require removal... 99% of the times, there's a broken piece stuck inside...

I've tried turning the car on and off, even unplugging the power to the antenna with the car on, trying to "reset" the antenna. Nothing works. Is there some hidden way to reset how the antenna pulls in and out?

Yes, the mast was broken and I had to take the entire antenna apart to remove the broken piece coiled up inside. What a hassle.

Update: When I took the antenna apart to remove the broken plastic cable inside, I removed the metal motor (at the top of the antenna). When I put everything back together, I inadvertently flipped the motor, which caused the entire antenna to operate in reverse. Once I realized this, I removed the motor, flipped it back, and now everything works OK.

Follow up on old thread.
I've replaced several of these over the years so I know the usual routine.
I have a new replacement mast and nylon tail,
The top nut has been removed.
I've removed the broken nylon tail from inside the gear housing.
My broken metal mast is loose. | can slide it up and down inside the main tube about 1.5", but I cannot fully withdraw it. It feels like it hits something inside the main tube. Almost feels like there is a flange inside preventing it from being pulled out.

Anybody had this issue pulling their old unit apart?
Suggestions?

Never mind . . . .. I figured it out.
The old mast was so corroded I couldn't see what was going on.

The OLD outer "sleeve" is part of the actual replacement mast (I'm talking about the mast itself and not the heavy tube it goes in). The old sleeve was corroded to the main tube. I disassembled the tube and used a LONG rod as a drift punch and pushed it out from the inside of the tube. Then, all the new parts fit back together.

I thought posting my resolution might help some other soul looking for a solution on their car.
