Default need advice on amps

I'm trying to run a sub for my ML system.

Question #1: Can I tap the pre from the ML amp instead of the speaker level output?

Depending on the answer:

If the ML amps do not have pre coming from the head unit, I'll need to buy an LC2i. I have an Alpine 1000.1 amp to feed the sub (SI BM MKIV).

Should I just sell my Alpine and get an jbl ms-a5001 since it has a built in speaker level input? The JBL is $229 from amazon.

Any thoughts?

had the same issue you had - speaker level inputs are the way to go.

at the time, the Alpine MRX-M55 Amplifier was the best for me (was $300+, got the **** and one type-x)

I tapped into the front speakers and rear subwoofers to capture all the frequencies. best part about the amp - voltage detection, only turns on when there's power coming from speaker level inputs.

A word of advice use the LC2I but to help protect the ML amp at high volume.. measure the resistance of the oem sub... then order a comparable resistor (@least 100w value) and wire it across the + & - speaker leads so the oem amp still sees a proper load..if not it may clip audio signal at higher volume levels. . This is of course assuming you plan to remove the oem sub..

U don't have to remove the oem sub.. though I have found slightly better bass inside the car with the factory sub gone
