Default SC430 New Subwoofer Question

I have a a small problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I purchased a Focal 1 Amp and and Polk Audio DB480 sub to replace the stock ML subwoofer. I ran power, ground, etc and have the amp working. For speakers leads, I run used the wire that was attached to the ML subwoofer to feed the high level inputs.

There seems to be a LOT of bass coming from this. I don't have the car all buttoned up, but when I tested it that woofer is really moving. I have the gain and bass boost all the way to minimum. Would I be better off using an LOC to feed the Focal 1 amp? I have the remote in the center glove box, but the way this tested, it will be set to minimum on everything.

Please help. I've never done this before. Any advise would be greatly appreciate!

Brian

Since you have a gain control remote an LOC probably won't help. I would turn the subsonic filter on and turn the lo pass to 50Hz. Adjust the the lo pass frequency as needed to meet your listening needs.

Is the sub in a box or did you put it in the same location as the stock sub? The stock sub is free air, if you replace it with a sub that isn't free air you will have a lot of cone movement. I couldn't find any information on a Polk Audio DB480, I found a DB840 but not a DB480. Either way check the subs manual to see if its free air and make sure the sub can handle the amps power.

Thanks for the info. You are correct, it's a DB840, not a DB480 as I indicated before. An yes, it is in the stock location.

Because I used the stock ML subs bracket, I used 8 screws and nuts to mount the new Polk sub to the ML plastic bracket. I then bought four longer screws to mount the stock bracket to the back seat using 8 washers (2 rubber, then 4 metal, then 2 more rubber) as spacers. I thought that might help with any rattling. Maybe I went over board.

Also, I now have a gap around the stock bracket and the back seat. I'm assuming since I'm using this as free air, that isn't a problem. Is this okay or do I need to do something different.

Thanks. Brian
