Hey Michael - did you plug in the antenna? J/K

basically, after getting an aftermarket head unit, your reception will almost never be as good..
how bad is it?
Ive installed 2 high end head units in the gs300 and none come close to the stock radio as far as reception is concerned..
i wonder if there is a way to take advantage of both the antenta cables instead of just using 1 of them in order to boost the reception.

There are "antenna adaptors", I've seen them for sale at Best Buy. Check the rack with the install parts (harness, etc). They just change the size of the plug.
The two antenna cables seem to lead to two seperate antenna traces in the rear window. I'm not sure which two of the many traces, I went cross-eyed trying for follow it.
The scheme is called spacial diversity. If you have two antennas, the chances are that one will have a better signal than the other as you drive around and pick up various distortions and multipath. The Engineer has designed the radio with two RF front ends and a computer controlled switch. The computer continually monitors the quality of the pair of signals, picks a winner and moves the switch to that antenna. Most radios sold today don't use the technique, probably because it's too expensive. If you're lucky, one of the antennas will consistently have a better signal. Plug that one into the radio (use the adaptor as needed). Just experiment by driving around with one cable connected. Then switch to the other. Is one better?
Just in case you were thinking it - do NOT combine the two antennas with a splitter and feed the combo signal into the single radio port. That guarentees that you'll always have the worst signal coming in to fight the good signal.
