I have a 1998 LX470 without the factory installed phone. I want to install a handsfree kit for my startac. The shop over here wants $250 but I was wondering if there is a way that it will mute the factory stereo when it rings, I know the factory installed phone does this, maybe there is wires hidden behind the dash somewhere?? I dont know?? I would appreciate the help

LX470mann,
A genuine Motorola StarTAC hands free kit will have an audio mute lead that can be tied into a phone mute input if your OEM radio has it. My best guess is the OEM radio in your LX will have this feature. Contact your Lexus dealer and have them provide you or the shop installing the hands free kit the wiring code illustrating which wire is the phone mute input.
If you run into problems with your dealer providing this information, e-mail me directly and I'll see if I can get it from my Lexus dealer.
Good luck!

LX470Mann,
250.00 isn't a bad price if it's a Motorola kit. In fact if that's installed with a dual band antenna (if you have a dual band phone) that's a great price. I think the kit alone is about 200.00 if memory serves me correctly. That leaves only 50 bucks for install, parts and antenna.... not bad. My concern would be wondering if these guys were competent to work on your car! Sometimes a shop will hire an "intern" to do basic work like phone kits and simple radio installs...make sure you know what tech specifically is going to be doing your install.
Good luck and keep us posted!
