Default ML Nav acting strange after battery died?

My battery went dead yesterday (lights left on), and now the right side buttons on the nav do nothing. I push the Maps, Dest, or Info buttons and I get a black screen. Sometimes I get a screen with white lines going down.
Any ideas on what I need to do to fix this? Some kind of reset?

Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 10 mins and reconnecting it?

No. I'll give that a try. Is that supposed to reset the system?

This did not work. Brought it to the dealer, and they had no guesses for what it could be. Little research on line said it could be a bad ecu?!?! The other person on line with this problem had it start right after his battery started acting up. My problems started right after I left my lights on and drained my battery. Warranty purchased does not cover the nav system

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Alright.....figured it out. I took the whole nav unit out, unplugged all connections in the back, and then pit it all back together. Connected the battery back up, and IT WORKED! Beyond happy. Hope this helps someone else if there battery dies and they have the same issue.
Getting nav update now, and then re-install my iVIC. Hope it works this time.
