Question How do I disarm my factory alarm system?

Hi gang:

I need to disarm my factory alarm system for shipping....just the alarm. The car still needs to be operational.

Whats the best way to disarm it? Remove the fuse? Which one? Any other method?

This is for a 2001 GS300.

Thanks! Any tip would be appreciated.

Pete

Maybe there is a fuse to pull? Try your Owner's Manual to get a fuse listing. Don't Loose It!

Not sure if its even possible. Keep us posted; could be useful to others.

Edit: I guess you could just lock the car with the master key remote, which arms the alarm, then unlock with the same remote when it arrives at the destination, then all is well. Right?

why would you need to disarm the alarm during shipping? And then why would you need to have the car still operational? I am just wondering, because the first thing that came to my mind is that a thief would need to know how to do this. What better place to find the info then from CL.

Its pretty easy to do in the SC. If what you want to do is turn that security light off and have it so that you can open the door while the security light should be on. So like if u lock the door but stay inside and open the lock with ur hands and open the door normally the alarm would good off and make the car not start. Well in the SC you can disconnect a wire and you're good to go. In the GS you dont have just one wire to disarm it so you would need a bypass system. I'm not 100% where you can get one but they usually have them for remote starters and keyless entry systems. You may want to check around there. Check the owners manual though. There might be a fuse for it but it seems unlikely. You second option is to call the dealer and tell them your situation.

I don't know but his sounds like the guy who wanted to learn how to fly a plane but doesn't really care much about how to land it

But, as an owner I would imagine that you would want the car protected while being shipped. Anyhow, the only suggestion I have is to disconnect the negative clamp to the battery.

phml, you didn't say how it is being shipped - by truck, rail, ship, air? Usually you have to leave a key with the car so it can be loaded - but if the alarm sets when the car is locked up, vibration during shipment can set off the alarm. It can happen repeatedly on a long voyage and the battery will end up dead and the car can't be started to unload it. Major pain in the ***, requires the car be towed or pushed off, chance of damage is high. Talk to the dealer.

Also, you should have your own transit insurance - don't depend on the shipper's policy.

Im shipping via ship.

Its a requirement to diable the theft deterent system before I ship the vehicle....mainly so that the car doesnt self lock, or the alarm goes off during transit, but also for Ag. inspectors to check the car for any illegal items.

I think pulling a few fuses should do it.
