Default IS250 and 12W6V2 with KS500

I had a sound system setup with two MB Quart 10's powered by an Arc Audio KS500 (non mini) and it sounded okay, but I then wanted more bass. So I ordered the JL 12W6V2 and the Boxology stealth enclosure (formally known as 4080). I paired it with the KS500 and hooked everything back up, but when I played the music, it sounded weaker than my two 10's. There must be something wrong.

I wonder if the KS500 is underpowering the W6 or I am not wiring something correctly like my LOC. I noticed on the RCA's if I pull out one from the LOC, the sub would hit the same. Now, connecting that RCA back into the LOC and then pulling out the other RCA, I get no output from the sub at all. I am thinking I did not tap the LOC to the right wires on the stock amp harness, but the W6 sounds much weaker than my old set up (with all the wiring the same). But could it also be that the KS500 is not powerful enough to push the W6?

Help please.

Okay I fixed the wiring of the LOC and it sounds better so that is no longer an issue, but I feel like the W6 is being underpowered by the KS500. Would anyone suggest me to go with the JL 500/1?

What OHM are you running your sub at? I'm guessing 2? Arc says the amp puts out 500w at 2, which is about right for the w6.

Your MB Quarts would have hit harder, due to the fact of more surface area.
w6=12" surface area
MB= 20" surface area

The more surface area, the harder it'll hit. It's like the 1 12w7 vs. 2 12w6's. The 2 w6 will hit harder.

You can go with the 500/1, but if the specs on the Arc amp, and the 500/1 are close, I'd stay with the Arc. But, if you want more bass, get another 12w6 and a 1000/1

Yes I am running at @ 2 now. I looked at the specs of the KS500 and JL 500/1 and they are very similar. I have not thought about the 1000/1 amp and another W6 yet although that sounds really nice but expensive.

In addition to the surface area, I think what constitutes to the tens hitting hard is that the box it was in was ported and tuned to the speakers. As you may know the 4080 is sealed and tuned to the W6 and the car.

I may delete my loc and use the speaker level inputs on the Arc amp and run that to the factory speaker wires, as advised by someone else. It may increase louder overall output.

Have you tried the KS500 by chance? I am sure the JL 500/1 is a great product, but if its comparable to the KS500, I'll stick to that. Or maybe I should look into the 1000/1 as mentioned...

It'll definitely hit harder with the ported, but I'm sure the single 12 is a better sounding in a sealed box. I'd check craigslist for the amp and sub, you never know what you'll find. I know the 1000/1 is expensive, but it'll sound so much better with another w6 and a 1000/1.

As far as the LOC, I don't know how much it will change using the LOC or using a speaker level. What LOC are you using?

I just installed it brand new into the 4080 enclosure Wednesday night. Maybe I need to wait for the break in period. I wonder how long the period is...

I am using this loc: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...AC-SNI-35.html

Would you recommend something else?

The reason I asked, is maybe your adjustments are wrong on the LOC. Have you messed with the adjustments?

I meant to say could the break in be needed for the sub to hit harder? That's what I hear. I just got the sub brand new on Wednesday.

Yeah, because it hasn't had power run through it enough to really loosen it up. Give it maybe another week or 2 and see if there's a difference

mahcah, did you ever ended up getting that setup, the 12W6v2 with the 500/1? I am thinking of getting the same on mine...
