Which sound proofing material is better, Scoche or Dynamat?

I know this wasn't an option...however the Cascade Audio Engineering CAE stuff has always worked better and DOESNT SMELL like Dynamat does.

Good luck and get that stuff REALLY HOT before applying it.

Ethan,
I've had very good luck with the Cascade Audio Engineering stuff. They make a roll that you can literally stick and apply. Lasts for quite a while too. Highly recommended.

The Scoche accumat is better them Dynomat IMO. I used and tested both. Dynomat is replaceable with the cheaper alternatives that are exactly the same or better for lower price anyway. Personally I use RAAMmat and could not be happier.

Does the "Dynamat" smell ever go away?

AgGS400,
It sure does, right when the adhesive wears out. You know when your dynamat is ready to fall off inside your door or trunk when you stop smelling like a new paved road. Sorry to be a downer on dynamat, however, I have ruined and seen others ruin a few cars with that stuff.

Thanks people for all your help.
I am asking 'cuz I'm doing my uncle's custom limo interior Suburban. Well, I better get it right the first time around since there won't be any, "second chances".

I have to agree with this completely! I've tried both Dynomat, Scoche, and several others. RAAMmat has given me the best results, and at a MUCH cheaper price
I liked the results so much I ended up getting a second roll (50ft per roll) and did just about every panel on my SC, from the hood, passenger compartment, doors, sides, fenders, trunk, trunk lid, EVERYTHING!
Gives the car a whole new feel, very luxurious! My only comments are that this stuff is pretty heavy. If you're worried about every 1/10 sec, you should probably use something else. Also, don't try to cut it on 90+ degree days
-Walter
PS - I'm not getting reimbursed for this, it's just my personal opinion.

Yeah^^^ this guys is getting paid J/K
For the record. If you insist on using brands Accumat is better then Dynomat and maybe even RAAMmat. For the price though, RAAMmat can't be beat.

will installing sound proofing material deaden conversation abilities? I'd like to get something that will decrease outside road noise, but still allow conversations to be audible.

You're thinking of the acoustic treatment used in recording studios studios and acoustic laboratories. The sound deadening material used in vehicles merely stops panels from resonating, and thus from transmitting noise either into or out of the car. The only effect it has on converstaions is to make it easier and more pleasant to converse.

To get read of road noise you will need to use layers of different deadening materials. Say 1 Layer of RAAMmat, 1 layer of foam (works as acoustic and heatshield barier), then strips of RAAMmat again on top. That has proven to work the best against noise.

I have, what I consider, to be quite a bit of Dynamat in my GS, and I've never smelled anything of asphalt. Are there differnt application techniques?
Funny recently though; I didn't think it made that much of a difference keeping out sound until I have ridden in other GSs with identical intakes and exhausts; mine is much quieter. (duh)
