Default installing components in 94 lexus es300

i just bought a set of 2-ways components to replace the stock speakers in my 94 lexus es300. im having a hard time figuring out how to get the speaker wire from the door to the the headunit. obviously it has to pass through the insulated boot to prevent weather damage. problem is, there is absolutely no space in the boot to cram a new set of wires through - all of it is taken up by a tangled, taped mess of wires already. my idea was to use the original speaker wire, and splice off on the driver side footwell where it would oiginally connect. someone in the es300 forum told me i couldnt do this because it was signal wire, not speaker wire. so, im looking for any suggestions. has anybody done this before? thanks for any help
