Default nav 9.1 upgrade

I currently have the 4.2 navigation disk in my 2005 ls430 and am thinking of upgrading to the 9 series. Is this as simple as inserting the new dvd? or is there more to the upgrade?

Do the upgrades improve on the appearance of the nav maps or only the information. What is override? haow do I do it and is it in the new disk?

thanks from a novice

first of all you need a 4th gen 9.1. the gen2/3 or the gen 5 wont work on your 4th gen computer. in 2007 model year starting with the 6.1 map(january 2006 navteq)lexus stopped allowing acsess to the override screen for fear the driver would have an accident while changing destination (similar to accidents while texting on cell phones.)and did away with the override screen feature on the all the models of 6.1 . so the only way to access the overide screen on 6.1 7.1 8.1 or the 1 week old 9.1 maps is to make a 5.1 /9.1 hybrid map with firmware from 5.1 map but everything else for the 9.1 map. maps. .................................................................................the overide feature is presently available on your 2005 model year 4.2 map dvd disc. go to menu screen then push volume button then tap up and down on left side if screen. several tinmes from top left to bottom left and a screen with 12 buttons will apear 2 rows of 6. hold the override button in for several seconds untill it changes color and the override feature will be working untill you turn off the ignition. the override feature lets passenger change destination aqnd lets other features conmtinue to work like bluetooth number acsess while moving. .............. warning!! never push the button labeled loading or it will ruin the computer by changing iot to another countries zone. just like movie dvds lexus ones only work in the zone the vehicle was sold in.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, email me for free videos and further info on how to acesss the overide screen feature on all lexus navigation system models. if you are having trouble getting to the overiride screen give me a email also as many lexus models seem to have a special quirk to access the override feature. . [email]egusman@woh.rr.com. so the bottom line is if you buy a straight 4th gen 9.1 map upgrade your override feature will no longer work like it will now on your current 4.2 4th gen map

HI all,

I am new to this forum, I have an 2006 IS 250, can anyone advice what to do to update my nav. system? I just asked my local dealer, they are selling the 9.1 revision for $270 ( including labor), is there any cheaper way?

Thanks for all your advice.

Ebay. I just picked up version 9.1 cheap, and it works great.

I have a question about the upgrade. Currently i have the 4.2 version in my 2005 es 330, if I upgrade will the navigation announce the names instead of telling me to turn in 1.2 miles? Its pretty sad that my navigation does not speak the names of the road since I have a cheap portable navi that does.

No, not with a simple upgrade disc, it will not.

Why is that sad? 6 years ago, navigation was light years behind what $250 buys you today. You do not expect the same things you get in a new computer in a computer you bought 6 years ago, do you?

Understood, but like any computer it should have the ability to be upgraded to where the system would be able to speak the names of the streets. Theres no excuse for that, were talking 2005, not 1995.
