Where is the amplifier for the GS430
Hi yall,
I just opened my rear seat to install a MTX subwoofer and Amp . Even with a converter, the sub sounds crap. So I am thinking if I can disable the factory amplifier.
Dose any one know where is the factory Amp ? and if I can disable only the factory sub?( that is for the GS430)
Also , I am thinking mounting the sub box beneath the rear dash , in the center . what do you think ?
Thanks

you generally need to seek out gurus like Percy for this stuff, but since I just had my amp replaced by the dealer I can tell you the tech was digging around behind the passenger tail light and passenger front seat floor area.

alkattan - Defiitely need to go to the pros on the Electronics board. The amp is in the passenger footwell area but bypassing it is generally not possible because the head unit and CD changer feed to it separately. You either use LLCs or install a new head unit. Percy and Mean Gene are definitely the guys to go over this on the Electronics section.

On the 2001 with the Mark Lev/Nav, it's on the PASSENGER side of the car in the trunk under the Nav DVD Drive unit...dunno if it's the same for the non-Nav/non-Mark Lev setup...

This is what you'll need to do. On the passenger side knee pad (it's directly under the glovebox) you'll have to remove a panel. If memory serves me correctly, it's held in place by a couple of release clips. As soon as the panel is out (don't forget to take out the little bulb by turning 1/4 turn) you should see the amp on the very far right hand side by the kickpanel area. It's VERY well concealed. What you're looking for is an aluminum module/heat sink that's about 8 inches in height. Should be 4 plugs going in. That's your amp.
This is true with the Premium/Pioneer system. Not sure about the NAK.
