Clifford is owned by DEI but unlike the two way paging deals the G5 is not just a renamed Viper, not sure where you looked but keyless entry, battery backup siren and most every other feature are standard.

You are right about the keyless entry. However, no alarm includes a backup battery as standard (that I know of from DEI)...

I looked on the Clifford Web Site.

From the site:
4 Channel Security / Remote Start System with Optional Keyless Entry

That's for the AvantGuard 5.1, the Intelliguard 770, the Concept 470, and the Arrow 5.1. Every single one says that, and every single one is part of the G5 lineup. Nowhere on the site on any model does it say a backup battery/siren is standard on anything but the AG 5.1. Maybe the dealers near you only sell it all as a package, but Clifford states it differently on their site.

I know the site is not clear about keyless entry but I'm not quoting any website, I have the Avantguard 5.1, Intelliguard 750 and Clifford 3.5 (two way pager) that's how I can speak to differences in quality, the 5.1 has everything standard except window module, it even has blackjax which is a keypad to prevent carjackings, it wasn't clear to me at first what the 5.1 offered as standard but I was pleasantly surprised.

As I said - keyless is optional. If the dealer chooses to hook it up, they can, but Clifford is very specific about it so that dealers can choose to charge for it if it's a sticking point. This is why several dealers I know carry the line - more basis points for profit. It's also how I know the brains inside are the same as the higher end lines for DEI. They don't vary up the engineering that much so they can contain costs. It makes sense from a financial standpoint, fo sho, and having a unit with all the bells and modules as part of a "standard" package that customers can see on their site helps dealers, too.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but just recently my friend had his car broken into and they took his double din and system, about 1k worth of stuff in a parking garage during the day. Im pretty afraid that someone will try to mess with my car now, so I need to protect it.

Ive been looking into the viper 5901 because I hear that its the best on the market. I just want something that will go off if someone tries to break my windows, open my doors, or tries to steal my rims. Someone told me I should get a "2-way." What does that mean? Am I supposed to buy extra parts like window sensors and tilt sensors or do they come with the package?

Thanks for your help!!

5901 isn't the best on the market. That's an opinion that some have, others disagree - me being one of them. That said, it's a good system - provided the installer knows what he's doing. The best system isn't going to matter if the install is shoddy. You will have to buy a glass break sensor, but the tilt is handled by the DoubleGuard that they should mount under the hood. This doubles as the pinswitch so that you cannot start it with the vehicle's hood up (safety first!).

A 2-way means the alarm comes with at least one remote that can receive as well as transmit information (data going two ways ).

Be smart - if you're concerned about your car, pay up for a quality installation from a reputable shop.

As for add ons I would recommend - pain generators. At least two. They are only about $40 to add, and they do a lot of good when it comes to warding off those who are looking for a quick bang but need to sit in the car to do so. 130dB sirens in the car make a headache real quick. Also makes it more likely they'll be going for a hearing test much sooner.

Could also get the extra battery/siren combo. It's about $50-80 to add, but it gives you additional peace of mind and makes life more interesting for a thief if they try to get under the hood and kill the alarm to have more time with the car. More hassle = less opportunity = less likelihood of getting hit.

I just asked a local reputable shop and they said that for the 5901 with glass break sensor it would be $375 with install included. They also said that they would work something out with me when I come in. What do you think? The installer has had 15+ years of experience in installing security systems.

Thats what I went with. Very good alarm. My previous prestige XR9000 started having issues, I returned it under warranty... of course i didn't pay for installation but the alarm itself still ran about $200.

that price didn't include the modules that I already had from before.

I just found the Viper 5701 for 135.63 shipped!! What do you guys think about this? Its an older model correct?

Also, where can I get a double din kit? I remember seeing a kit that looked completely OEM.
