Difference in brands of car speakers..
Hey, I havent been into much stereo equipment lately an was just wondering about what brands are still good out there. I use to use alot of eclipse audio, are they still a good sounding speaker and what not. What do they compare to like boston acoustic or pioneer. Well im just looking for something that i can replace the stock speakers with that has good sound quality without getting an amp.
Thanks for any info in advance.

Some companies are good, others have fallen by the wayside of the bean counter. The high end companies like Dynaudio are always improving and redefining state of the art.
Sony has definitely fallen to the bean counter as well as some of the products from Alpine.
Infinity - they used to have all sorts of exotic stuff, but now have also fallen.
The mid to high end market definitely isn't what it used to be. The "hay day" was back in the mid 90s. Haven't seen a time like this, but it possibly may come again, hopefully in the near future.

The Boston Pros are some of the best sounding speakers you will hear in that price range ($600), but require an amp. Their coax speakers are pretty good. I would certainly compare them to the Eclipse of old in both categories. Eclipse is not the same as they used to be, IMO.
For a good inexpensive speaker, the higher end Pioneer coaxes are decent. Step up to the Premier and you're doing a bit better. Components in that line are going to sound pretty decent, but not in the same league as the Bostons. Again, the components would probably need an amp.
There are options out there, especially if you're not wanting components. Generally speaking, though, if you want those, you'll need an amp. What's your budget?

Focal?
They're not bad. I'd place them in the same range as Diamond Audio, Morel, etc.
MB Quart would be on a lower tier.
Top tier would still be Dyn.
