Sc300 Audio: Tried hooking up a new double din DVD/CD player????
Yea so I got a double din CD/DVD/TV for my 96' SC 300 and they sent me home with a wiring harness. I got got the car apart and the CD player mounted, but came to find that it wasnt possible to hook it up without running all new speakers and amps????? Is there any way to hook it up and run it onm the stock components? what is the best route I can take to get this audio in the car working again??? thanks

you do not have to run new speakers and amps, but you do have to re-wire the whole car to get past the factory amps, so its smart to run a new 4-channel amp or something like that for the factory speakers to run a better sounding set up, but isnt necessary, you can just rewire the whole car and your double din will work fine without having to add a new amp, just takes a bit of time to rewire all of the speakers

I was thinking, it will be nice to go ahead and upgrade to all new speakers and run a 4-way amp anyways... I just have to figure out how to run a new sub in place of the factory one... anyone have suggestions on speakers, amps, and a way to replace the factory sub (is there room to build a box in between it and the fuel tank)?

well i am pretty sure the stock sub is a 8", and there is no room to put a box in there between the tank and stock location, i actually pulled my stock sub out to vent the sub from the trunk into the cab, but that required me to pull the backseat because the sub wouldn't quite fit out over the gas tank through the trunk. There are 8" subs you can replace the stock one with, but when I tried to do this about 4 years ago or so, there wasnt quite enough clearance for when the sub hit, the magnet would hit my gas tank, but they might make ones that fit now. Just open the space up so you can see your gas tank and measure the clearances and then go to a shop that can give you spec sheets for subs and you can figure it out from there. But in terms of speakers/amps, its kinda all a matter of preference on which brands you like, most of the companies that you would know about produce nearly the same products and are all fairly high quality through the experience I have had. And even if you dont have the nakamachi system, you still need to re-wire, you under no circumstances need new speakers and amps, you just have to wire around the stock ones to run aftermarket head units. New speakers are not necessary at all, just something you can do, but a new amp is a good idea, but again not required for it to work.
