Radio keeps going on and off
I'm driving and listening to my CD's and all of a sudden, it goes mute. At first I thought the CD was just skipping. Until all the tracks had no music coming out. I then switched it to the FM radio and still no music was coming out. I put the radio on f ull blast and I could slightly hear something... then out of no where it comes back on playing normally. So i'm driving down and next thing it just mutes completely again! Now it didn't come back on yet. What is the problem and how can I fix this?

Same thing was happening with my car. Changed out the amp and everything was all good again.

Thanks for the info! So it's the Amp i guess. Would it be better if I just bought an aftermarket Amplifier? Because I was planning on putting a subwoofer in my car soon anyway. Just was looking up prices on a stock amp and they run about $200. so I was just wondering if this is the right opportunity to put an aftermarket amp in place?

I may be speaking out of turn since I don't have an SC but I distinctly a thread on this forum in the last few years where the telephone mute wire connection to the amp was getting grounded causing the audio system to occasionally mute.
I think it was an SC but I remember it was a model with the amp under the rear seat. Is this where the amp is on an SC?
Even if you don't have a Lexus phone, all Lexus cars prior to 2003 have a mute connection for a dealer installed phone. They all operate on the grounding principle in that when the telephone is in use, the phone system grounds the mute wire causing the audio system to go almost silent.
On my 00 LS, when my phone mutes the audio system I can still barely hear the radio.

The amp on our SC is in the trunk underneath the CD changer. The concept of the tele mute wire is an interesting one for sure and entirely plausible, however it is a common and know thing for the amps to go out on SC's because of their location (being directly in the path of water if any drainage problems occur in the trunk).

I'm sure it has to be my Amp. Someone told me it was my speakers but I don't think so because when I put my Volume on Full Blast... I can slightly here the music playing. It's very soft, but I hear it. So I think my amp just lost its power and I need a new one.
