So after months of not knowing what the problem is it turned out being the driver side mid speaker it was bad. I noticed it because put my balance all the way over to the right side of the speakers and it stopped cutting in and out but as soon as i put it on the left it started again. So therefore i checked out those speakers on that side and found the mid was bad. Retarded *** technicians didnt even think of that but i had a feeling that was the problem from the start. Ordered a new speaker from ebay dropped it in and its all good. Thanks for all the help everyone!!

These plastic clips look like a button with a center pin. You need to push the center pin in first- it is very hard to see - but press on the center of the plastic button with a small screw driver and the pin will slide in 1/8 of an inch, then you can easily pop the button out with out breaking it.

Nice work. Maybe you can helpme out; have 20003 SC430, exact what yowife has. The probnlem I'm having right now is the stock navigatin that came with it is not staying on. When the car first comes on, the Nav comes on and then goes off. The oiginal lexs radio was replace with a dvd an sinc then, the top dsn't stay on.

The problem is that once you removed the stock radio for the Nav system to work you need an adapter that integrates your new radio into the computer controlled system. This is somewhat expensive, and the adapter is made in Japan and sold here in the US by Beat sonic. see link.

Also would you happen o know of any sites that makes Leather RADIO FACE PLATES? I've been looking every where and still unable to find one. Note: I'm not looking for a whole dash kit, all I need is a DIN to cover the sides when dvd player is installed. Thanks for eveything

What I would do is take the two black filler pieces that come with the kit to a upholstery shop and have them glue matching leather pieces onto the filler plates. They should be able to do this so it looks good. Good Luck

Just wanted to add quick THANK YOU to this poster for the pictures and instructions. I ordered the repair kit and in just two hours I had a working speaker again. THANKS! My one tip: I did not actually completely remove the door panel. Instead, I unscrewed everything as instructed, but left it connected at the top. I just wedged it open with something about a foot long, just enough for me to lay under it and unscrew the speaker.
I had my iPad pointed to this page while unscrewing everything.
Then I watched the YouTube video while repairing the speaker.
Saved my Much money and grief!

While researching replacement speakers for my 2002 SC430, I came upon what I believe is some new(ish) info. OEM part number for the lower door (woofer) speakers is 861600W421. Prices at OEMLexusparts.com is $187 each. This is actually a Lexus dealer in Fredrick, CO. Parts.com has them for $181.

I have actually been looking for aftermarket replacement 8 Ohm speakers and have found some. They are Audiopipe APMB6900 available at www3kings.com for $67/pair. The depth is (94mm) 3 7/8. My problem is that I can't find out (without taking the door panel off) whether these will work. Does anyone have the depth measurement?

I have seen that post where someone used the DC Gold N69R speakers. They measure 3.17 deep according to their site and are much more expensive. Also, Crutchfield says the available depth is 2.8".

Given the discrepancy between these two numbers leads me to believe that either Crutchfield is leaving room for error or the DC Gold user used a spacer.

Finally, I found lots of OEM speakers on Ebay but they seem to be the same crummy speakers that came in the car and they are very expensive.

Bottom line, I am about ready to pull the door and measure the depth unless someone who has done it can report back.

I searched hi and low for some decent replacements that could handle the pathetic volume issue of the ML's. As you all know there are almost no 8 ohm car speakers available.... well, I found some!! They're made by DC Gold. Do a search on the web and you will find several places, but shop around, as prices vary. They're actually designed for marine (boating), so a bonus for us drop top owners, as they will handle the elements better, and last an eternity.

I was less than thrilled with the lack of volume the ML's could handle, but the DC Gold's are awsome! Rated for 80W. What a difference! Now I can be on the highway and next to a semi and hear my music.

Next, the install... they fit! RAH! I was afraid that they would be too deep, and the window wouldn't go down, but with the bracket from the ML's they're perfect. I'm not an expert installer by any means, and it took about three hours to do both fronts. I chose the N69R, these are the reference models. They also make a classic model (a little cheaper). Yes, they're not cheap-- $287, but they sound incredible. Check out their website to read up on then.

One note, on the install, you will need to use the mounting adapter that the ML's are screwed into. Peal the foam surround back from the 4 corners, and get an allen wrench to unscrew them... then take a flat head screw driver and loosen the speakers from the bracket (a little bit all the way around the edge, so you don't force/break them). To put the new speakers in the brackets, you have two options... drill the hole a bit wider in the DC Golds, or angle the screws in a bit all the way around.

I re-used the wire clips, and made an extension for the one side as the connectors are on each side of the magnet... not a big deal. You can wedge the wire into the clip, then add a little solder to keep in in place.

I thought about replacing the rears too, but this has been more than adequite, and I'm a happy camper!!

What's the trick for getting the window switch plate off the armrest? I'm basically tearing up the leather around the edge and cracking the damn thing trying to get it out.

There's a clip at the front and back part of the plate.
Find a WIDE flat tip screw driver, put some tape around the tip (electrical tape works good for this)-- you basically want to soften the edges of the screwdriver so that it doesn't go through your leather, or scratch anything, however you still need to be able to get it in between the plate and armrest.

This is also recommended for removing the inside handle bezel of the door latch.
